essay tip! Go to Wikipedia, read the info you want, and instead of citing Wikipedia (teachers hate that for some reason?) go to the footnotes and find those sources. And now you have a reputable source
School Pro-tip
I know we can’t do this right now cause of covid-19 BUT
when you graduate or move school the next time that school had like a ‘open day’ (*)
Go to it! you can see how the school changed, what teachers are still there any new activities they do, who won the school awards, see your favourite teacher etc
But also You can fuck around and be a pain in the ass the the bad teachers I’M NOT SAYING to go and vandalize the school or be out right mean to the staff but If the principal (like mine was) was a complete asshole, be passive aggressive Her: How have you been? Me: Oh yeah great! therapy starting to help, I go to a new school who are really wonderful, helping me catch up on all the work that you guys didn’t teach me, I feel so supported now days
Calling staff by their first name It’s so funny
Teacher: I didn’t expect you to be here, what a lovely surprise Me: Yeah, I wanted to see what the school is like after I left, how are the year 7s going Rachel
Also seeing the people who were in the grades below you agin can be fun, or in the case of moving schools, seeing the people you went to class with etc (*) where people come and visit the school and see if they wanna go there, idk you guys might call it something else
school/study tip: drain the fuck out of your phone so when you have to start studying or working, you have to put it aside to charge.
quick tip for studying and reviewing essays:
change the font and the size. this way, when you look at it again, it will be different and can stick to your memory a bit better. for essays, you can catch more errors. this is because when you write and edit in the same font and size, you get used to the way it looks, so you can’t catch things that are “out of place” as easily.

a lot of teachers will help you out if you ask them. work smarter not harder.
at the end of my freshman year, our english teacher told us that we were to make a presentation about a book (it was supposed to be our final exam). we were supposed to read and annotate the book (could be a play too), write a weekly report (basically an indepth analysis of what you’ve read so far) and then create a presentation (could be any form but almost everyone went with power point). she gave us a list of books and plays we could choose to work on (i’m pretty sure that she told us that we could choose our own book too, but everyone went with the books she listed). after the class, i went up to her and asked her if i can make my final about The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. I chose that book from couple of reasons: (1) i have a relationship with this book and knew i would enjoy working on it, (2) the book is really short so i knew that i would read it quickly, (3) because i have a relationship with this book, i knew what i wanted to talk about. She said yes (she sighed in a way that said that she loved that book as much as i) and so that’s what i based my final project on.
i finished a MONTH before everyone else with an A. (and i worked by myself, a lot of my classmates were doing this as a group project).
a big portion of school is working on assignments you don’t feel passionate about (which is why you don’t like school), so when you have the opportuity to work on something you like, you should take that opportunity. it will make your life so much easier.
work smarter, not harder.
also, if you can, ask to go first.
in sixth grade, our nature sciences teacher told us we were supposed to make a presentation and write a report (i had no idea how to work on academic papers and she didn’t really tell us how to either; she gave us an example and was like: gl). my presentation was a disaster because i didn’t really know what i was doing as we never did this before. anyway, i volunteered to go second. i presented my terrible project and the teacher said “since this is the first project you’re seeing, you get a B but anyone else who will do this will get a D”. So present while the bar is low, it might save your grade.
