A dynamic weave of contemporary graces classical architecture. This is our Contemporary Classicism project and it tells a story.
This home is tailored. It evolved into a 'one-of-a-kind' home over three years of customization and curating as a 'from-the-ground-up' project. It is now on the finalists list of this year's SBID International Design Awards!
The grand Palladian-inspired volumes are 'gallery-white' fresh and richly layered with stepped profiles. The narrative lies in the personality infused into these beautiful bones.
A rhythm of dynamic line and brilliant jewel tones of peacock, cobalt and magenta bring soul to this home. The majestic architecture can support these in perfect balance.
The Great Room is centrally located and is architecturally breathtaking with its double-sided fireplace, symmetrical arched openings and the double-height window wall. The window wall speaks pure sophistication being framed with floor to ceiling satin draperies. The panels are defined with long, clean box-pleated headings and are outlined with wide inset bands of cobalt blue. These statuesque treatments provide a beautiful connection from ground to ceiling and are a very necessary element in bringing human scale.
A grouping of three off-white sofas brings an elegant grounding to a very robust and artful area carpet of silver and magenta wool and silk. I love the unexpected and a long contemporary bench with a sleek polished nickel base is fashionably upholstered in a swirl of contemporary embroidery; not usual but certainly full of personality.
The centre piece of the room showcases one of our custom-designed tables tailored specifically for this home. This is a large 54” tiered square cocktail table composed of glass, polished nickel and macassar ebony. A grouping of peacock-coloured art glass and organic silver forms provide an artful and floating composition on both top and bottom shelves. A contemporary rendition of Indian art is the focal point of the room. It’s vibrant and full of symbolism; a truly personalized addition to the space.
Relying on its clean classicism as a solid backdrop, this striking residence is energized with free contemporary spirit.
