Just found out my first big celebrity crush back in grade school passed away in 2019 from early-onset Alzheimer’s. This really stings. I remember seeing Carol “Lefty” Johnston in a Disney documentary back when I was in 5th or 6th grade (not realizing at the time the documentary was from 1980, making her almost old enough to be my mother), and being completely fascinated by her. She was born without the lower portion of her right arm, and it must’ve made an impression on me because I’ve always been particularly attracted to congenital arm amputees like her ever since. I’d always held out some hope that I might someday meet her. RIP, Carol.
