I don’t understand how if a brand has existed for years e.g. savlon how they can still be testing on animals? Surely they don’t test the same product over and over?
I think you’re assuming that all animal testing is pre-market, but that unfortunately isn’t the case. Some countries, mostly China, can require companies to test on animals while a product is in-market, so companies truly committed to avoiding animal testing just don’t sell there. Companies like Savlon are also always engaged in research and development, they have come up with several products over the years and all will have been tested on animals during their development.
Even if Savlon had tested their cream a decade ago and never again, many of us would still consider them to be an animal testing brand, since that is how they developed their product. It is why many of us object to companies like Impossible Foods, even if they aren’t actively engaged in testing now. It is much more clear cut with Savlon though, as they are still actively engaged in animal testing. I’d also point out that Johnson & Johnson (who own Savlon) are an infamously unethical company when it comes to human rights, too
