Today the NHS is 70 years old.
This is definitely a cause for celebration.
It should also be a rallying call. If we want to continue to have the service that Aneurin Bevan founded we must maintain the three principles:
- that it meet the needs of everyone - that it be free at the point of delivery - that it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay
That means keeping private companies trying to make a profit out, paying for the staff we need, protecting the whistleblowers and putting making people healthy as the priority.
