I just realized all my Vacuo posts have the wrong fucking tag, I’m in hell, suffering. Help.
thank you for sharing your experience. i hope you don't have any encounter with ableist shits that go around the fandom. you have my blessing
but i 100% agree with you and it's a shame that most fans ignore it, i guess they're sensitive with lgbtq+ issues bc they can relate but not disabled/poc issues. what i hate is that they always redirect valid worries over ableism/racism to the traits that made the villains villains. you say heyyy uhhh the ironwood metaphor is ableist, "but he was a genocidal maniac!". uhm ok? he could be one without the ableism. you say heyyy uhhh adam was a slave so doesn't anyone think it's weird he's a villain, "but he was an abuser!". ok? he was a slave too and it was never given proper care and attention. i mention both bc they were really hated v3 onwards and everyone behaves weird when talking about them. but yeah. best of luck out there !!
omg thank you beloved, I am surviving the best I can. <3
like it’s impossible for me to say that I don’t like Ironwoods arc, character or portrayal without getting grouped in with a side of a argument i don’t agree with.
You’re so right, or with cinder! “She’s insane and evil.” She was a disenfranchised and abused child, also she really didn’t need to lose her arm and eye.
mercury is the only character I’m not totally icky with, he’s disabled before we meet him and he’s more morally ambiguous but! He was also a homeless man in the RWBY equivalent of Mexico/India/maybe china/indigenous peoples in general (Vauco) which again. Very icky.
or how most of the few actually dark skinned characters in the early seasons are always portrayed as villains?
honestly the way the show and fandom treats disabled people is sickening.
Like I can’t get a word in without being called a hater, or a RWDE like gamers. Have you never once been critical of your media? Of why it’s how it is?
omg yes thank you for your comment on the ironwood post. like i KNOWWWW ironwood bad but crwby commenting on how losing his limbs is a metaphor for losing his humanity was disgusting. and youre so right by pointing out how most disabled characters are on the villain side (ironwood, adam, tyrian, mercury, cinder). they're mostly poc and poor too, which icks me greatly. i don't think crwby was intentional with it but for sure they don't have sensitivity readers so these things fly under their radar bc they're privileged enough not to have to think about it. i love rwby too but the not-so-undertones of discrimination against minorities and how some stans are quick to shut down fans who mention these issues by calling them haters and horrible stuff is. very very ugly
THANK YOU!!!! <3
Now I’ve never lost a limb before but I have a few friends who have, be it by medical or traumatic reasons. It’s never fun and due to the inherent nature of ableism in our world and culture this can make people feel less then human.
shit it makes me feel less than human, I personally have chronic pain and trouble with my legs and hip. Making it difficult for me to walk some days, this makes me feel less than human when I actively one get weird looks for being a teenager with a cane and two have to struggle up stairs.
CRWBY are good writers but they have an inherent amount of privilege when it comes to how they portray characters. Especially the disabled or POC characters, leaving me with a horrid feeling.
Ironwood losing his “Humanity” with his arm makes me feel icky and upset. You can’t lose your humanity like you lose a limb.
it disgusts me that the FNDM absolutely refuses to see that this isn’t good writing, the fact that they constantly put disabled and POC people as there villains isn’t a good choice but you can’t be critical of RWBYs writing at all without some part of the fandom calling you RWDE.
the fact that this show has a higher ratio of disabled villains then disabled hero’s isn’t a good thing.

Team STRQ as sports med quotes.
Tai: now all we have to do is find the proximal anchor.
Qrow: I’m not a goddamn Ship, What Anchor?
Tai: How are you not falling this class
———
Raven: I just remembered how your arm bones work, I am not having a fun time anymore.
Qrow: I don’t think you’ve ever had a fun time.
———
Tai: How much trouble do you think I’ll get in if I Maim one of the coaches
Summer: No, bad, no. Don’t.
Qrow: which one?
Tai: Uh, Coach James
Summer: I retract my statement do it. Now.
———
Tai; I think god hates us.
Summer: I think we hate ourselves more.
———
Raven: The worst mistake I made was spending my money on this class.
Summer: You have to spend money on this class?
Raven: Yeah
Summer: I thought education was free in this country.
Raven: Then think again!

Ruby sliver eyes unlike her mother and other silver eyed warrios, her eyes under certain lights have a very faint blue hue, a blue hue that matches her dad taiyangs.
it was always something yang or qrow would point out to her as a sort of term of endearment, like saying things like, "you got your dads hue" or "dads colors are showing again" little things like that.
So when Ruby was home sick and missing her dad, she'd sit under specific lights on so see could see the blue hue and would reminisce on certain memories she had with her family.
(not that ruby minded, of course)
