Cosmere Characters' Favorite Word
As requested by anon. :)
It's so mysterious that all of their favorite words appear to be English words... Well, best not think too hard about it.
1. Taravangian
Taravangian: My favorite word is "hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia," meaning "the fear of long words." Taravangian: Such a beautiful representation of how fear is contained merely within the thing itself. Adrotagia: ...I've known you long enough to know that that's always been your favorite word, and that your reason has always been "because it's funny." Taravangian: Lol, yeah. Taravangian: Whoever invented that word was such a jerk.
2. Siri
Siri: I've always liked "kerfuffle." Siri: IĀ knowĀ it means "disturbance." Siri: But it sounds like such a nice word. "Kerfuffle." Like it's fluffy trouble.Ā Susebron: Imagine if we had a pet cat... And its name was Kerfluffle... Siri: Brilliant!Ā
3. Design
Design: My favorite word is "one-hundred-thousand-eight-hundred-and-fifty-three." Design: Not only is it prime, but it also happens to be the exact number of hair follicles on my head! Nikaro (cautiously): Isn't that a...number? Design: In word form, yeah!
4. Lift
Lift: Callipygian. :) Wyndle: ... Lift: :) Wyndle: .... Lift: It :) means :) having :) a :) beautiful :) butt. :) Wyndle: ... Lift: :)
5. Tress
Tress: I can never decide between "wanderlust" and "nostalgia"! Tress: They are both such pretty words! Charlie: And so thematic. Tress: How so?
6. Pattern
Pattern: Mmmm.... I like "petrichor:" the smell of stone after rain! Pattern: A word that's all hard edges and firm stops, exactly like a smell isn't! Pattern: Mmmm....a delicious verbal lie!
7. Nale
Nale: I am sure that everyone expects my favorite word to be "law" or some such thing. Nale: But no. Nale: My favorite word is "facetious." Nale: All of the vowels are in order. Nale: And that is neat. Szeth: ... Nale: I have layers.
8. Steris
Steris: I have a least favorite word, actually. Steris: Palindrome. Steris: How could they make a word that means "the same forwards and backwards" and have it NOT be a palindrome itself?? Steris: That's why I prefer my own word that means "the same backwards and forwards:" palinilap. Steris: Palinilap. Steris: Rolls right off the tongue.
9. Sarene
Sarene: I'll have to go with the word "no." Sarene: Because the ability to set boundaries and be your own person? Sarene: That's surely the most important thing.
10. Jasnah
Jasnah: Palimpsest. Jasnah: I appreciate the literal meaning--a document where the original words have been scraped off and new words written over them, but where the original writings may still be faintly detected. Jasnah: And the philosophical one--something whose full truth can only be determined by working your way down through the many layers.
11. Hoid
Hoid: My favorite word is "plethora." Hoid: It just...means a lot to me. Jasnah: Divorce. Hoid: W-We're not even married!!
12. Kaladin
Kaladin: I know everyone is showing off here. Kaladin: But you can't go wrong with "storm." Kaladin: It's so versatile! Kaladin: It's the best weather... It's a swear word... It's a verb... A noun... Hoid: ...Kaladin's favorite word is "fuck"? Kaladin: THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID
Cosmere Fight Bracket
Round 1 (part 14)
Sarene
Kaladin
Reading Elantris and its interesting how Brandon wrote Sarene as very ānot like other girlsā and dismisses the other women of the court as bumbling idiots, but in mistborn he defies the same cliche with Vin slowly realising she should not underestimate or look down upon the women around her and even comes to accept her own femininity.
I donāt know I think its cool how Brandon rectifies this sort of trope in his writing after one book.
Sarene: Well, my husband's apparently dead, so I have nothing to do. Time to troll people in power.Ā Ashe: Please don't troll the King, my lady.Ā Sarene: Of course not.Ā Ashe: Oh thank goodness Sarene: That would be too easy. Now, that religious crusader with the armor, psychopathic sidekick, and massive army of priests⦠he might be fun to play with Ashe: Oh sweet merciful Domi why *meanwhile in zombieland* Raoden: I am going to cure everyone's depression using shoes and history books Galladon: Pretty sure that hasn't ever worked Raoden: Of course it hasn't worked, it hasn't been done by ME yet.Ā
I love Elantris so much. The rest of the Cosmere gives us complex backstories and traumas seasoned with snark and philosophy and epic magic systems. Elantris is just two separated soulmates who decided to punch fate in the face because they felt like it. Simple, but delicious.

So far all of my bookmark designs in art nouveauish style. I like some more than others but for an experiment I think I'm doing a good job. I still love Syl as my favourite and she was the first I drew. I hope to keep drawing more cosmere characters from different books!
You can see Elend here and Dalinar here! The maximum per post seems to be ten pictures so I can't add them here š
"I once described Jasnah to someone in my writing group as "the person that Sarene thinks she is."
--Brandon Sanderson
That is a cold thing to say about a character (Sarene) that you say you like, BrandoSando.
Cosmere Inktober day 11: Wife
We joke about how many husbands with dead wives there are in the cosmere, but let's not forget the OG Wife with a dead husband, Sarene!
