#mr. sardonicus #sardonicus #1961 #american cinema #william castle #horror film #films i done watched #torture tw #needle tw #creepy mask #ronald lewis #guy rolfe #audrey dalton #oskar homolka #vladimir sokoloff #erika peters #lorna hanson #edith atwater #james forrest #david janti #poorly received when it was first released and fairly difficult to find since (at least in the uk)#i'm grateful to be able to see this and in hd too! it's classic castle nonsense but leant an added air of class #through the canny casting of brits guy rolfe and ronald lewis. rolfe is superb. he spends most of the film behind an eerie mask of his #own face so must rely on his voice and his physical presence to get his character across. he does it brilliantly and in fact the reveal #of his face is a little disappointing. sfx limitations of the time not withstanding. i've avoided using pics anyway cos #it is a bit creepy. as always castle had a marketing stroke of genius. this time the punishment poll in which castle himself appears #onscreen and asks the audience to vote on sardonicus' final fate. naturally he gently pushes for the more horrifying ending #received wisdom has it that it was the only ending filmed which honestly doesn't surprise me. its classic castle #interestingly one of the few things well received about this film at the time was ronald lewis. the welsh actor was probably at the height #of his career as a leading man. sadly it wasn't to last and genre fare like this didn't help. within five years the roles were drying up

Spent the evening watching Vertigo. I imagine I’ve seen it at least 4 times. The third doodle is the guy that murders the real Madeline and sets Jimmy Stewart up for his mental collapse. It pleased me as a careless likeness. Kim Novak, not so much. In fact, I had to cut, paste, move, her left eye up considerably. A Quasimodo effect that surprised me. It’s why digital art should always be flipped as you do it. See where things are getting out of whack.
