October 4, 1984 - In a speech at the UN General Assembly in October 1984, Sankara denounced Israel’s actions in Palestine as “an arrogant disregard for the international community” and expressed his solidarity with Palestinian fighters.
The Pan-African revolutionary repeatedly supported the Palestinian cause, showing full solidarity and respect, describing Palestinians as “courageous, determined, stoic, and tireless” in their effort to “remind every human conscience of the moral necessity and obligation to respect the rights of a people.”
Sankara also frequently connected the struggles of oppressed peoples in his political speeches. In 1986, he stated, “We condemn and fight against apartheid in South Africa, just as we condemn Zionism in Palestine.” [video]
