I think my personal issue with the finale is mostly that it just…makes nandermo less interesting to me. Don’t get me wrong I wanted them to grow—both of them….
But Nandor’s just being right about Guillermo not being ready? It just makes it feel like the majority of the responsibility for growth has been place on him. Where previously it seemed more equal, Guillermo was getting more sure of himself….Nandor was becoming more respectful….
Plus I don’t need Nandor secretly knowing Guillermo better than he knows himself, to know that he loves him…plus he’s been the one looking down on Guillermo and kind of condescending for the past four seasons like…”I just knew better than you?” If he’d said that in the first couple of seasons in an interview we’d want him to be punched.
Because he felt that way even about non-vampire related things and it often made him extremely unkind.
Guillermo’s arcs have been about gaining autonomy……growing beyond a submissive familiar and into a legit slayer….
And like….Guillermo can be a morally complex person who is so so kind and also very unethical and that’s great, that’s interesting! I prefer that! I know it’s not what everyone finds the most interesting character wise but…..
