Searching for sand

and here it is, the prologue for Sandswept!

Since I didn't post it with the cover, here's the summary:

"Sunseeker and his father, Rabbitbrush, live on the outskirts of the SandWing kingdom. It's not the most interesting life, but Sunseeker is okay with that- he'd much rather be a little bored and secluded than stuck in some city, especially since this is the way his life has been ever since he was a young dragonet. It doesn't help that he's a hybrid- he can only imagine the sort of rumours he would have to put up with, especially since his mother, Devotion, left years ago.

But when Rabbitbrush comes down with a strange illness, Sunseeker is forced to leave the comfort and peace of his home and search for a way to cure his father before it's too late- and along the way he uncovers dark secrets from his past, as well as the truth about why Devotion left when he was a dragonet."

The whole thing is mostly just to practice (especially backgrounds. As you can see, I definitely need it.)

A sunset near Cryxia is warm and soothing. The dunes carress one to sleep like the warm arms of a goddess, and the wind sings to a lonely traveler like an ancient lullaby.

Dreams had here are especially vivid and pleasant, though are almost always forgotten in the morning. Nevertheless, one will almost always wake up full of a profound joy.

Anakin looked down at his two bundles of joy, toddling along and willing to put anything in their mouths. His flesh palm suddenly felt clammy and cold, and he swallowed nervously.

A part of a moisture vaporator had fallen apart, and not even Anakin’s mechanical skills could fix when a necessary part was not there. Beru and Padme had gone to fetch the part, while Owen finished collecting from the vaporators with Threepio and Artoo. That had left Anakin to repair small devices and watch his children.

His children, who were currently reaching for the welding torch at the same time.

“No!” he shouted, reaching out with his mechanical hand to grab it and put it out of reach.

His tone must have been harsher than he expected, as both of the twins burst into tears.

Carefully laying the torch out of reach, he went over to the two and scooped them up in his arms. He began to rock them gently, humming deeply so his chest rumbled.

“Daddy was just worried, not mad, alright?” he said, rubbing circles into Luke’s back. Leia was pounding at his back, but he just reach up to tussle her hair.
