The main reason SamBucky shippers get so bent out of shape about people shipping SamQuin is because they have no use for Sam outside of Bucky and it offends their sensibilities that anyone else might. That’s it. It’s the same reason SamSteve shippers get called stupid and told that Steve “baby trapped” Sam with the shield, and the same reason people were pretending they thought Leila was Sam’s sister, and the same reason people insist Misty can only be shipped with Danny, and the same reason that people were ready to end it all because a handful of fans started shipping Sam and Dennis — multi shipping is always a problem if it involves Sam, because these “Sam fans” can’t fathom writing or reading about Sam if their true favorite character, Bucky, isn’t involved.

Let’s be serious. These people are never talking about the comic versions of these characters. Hell, most of them have never cracked a comic book. And it’s not an age gap problem, because MCU Sam and Joaquin are both a couple of grown ass men who are friends. Besides, most of this fandom has never said boo about an age gap before, so I find it hard to believe they’d really start now. And we know it’s not because Sam and Joaquin don’t know each other well enough, because this same fandom would happily ship Bucky with Darcy, or Clint, or Tony, or hell even the milk man if he got within breathing distance. And it’s definitely not because MCU Sam and Joaquin are father son coded on screen — that’s some fanon shit they made up. No, their problem is that, to them, Sam exists to be used as a self-insert for their Bucky centered “swirl” fantasies and nothing more.
