i dont get how "sam and max are gay married" was ever an unserious gag back before modern internet gays. how does that even work as a gag. as far as i know the intention was always just that this dog and lagomorph have a relationship indistinguishable from a married couple on their fiftieth anniversary. for some reason. not in a tumblry cutesy shippy blushy romantic way, just that the way sam and max works might as well count as canon gay. because theyre just like bert and ernie. theres no subtext its just right there on screen and it was there long before blushy gay internet teens decided it should be gay. but because they didnt literally say the word "gay" or anything, no one during those apparently very homophobic 1990s cared

i need to do an experiment where i show an image of sam and max to people who dont know sam and max and have them imagine what voices they have. i need to know if its true that 90% of samples would be exactly the same as canon
