I had obviously heard his name but didn't really know anything about him. Your question made me do some searching which turned out to be really interesting so thank you!

The funny thing is that still don't know much about him. Internet is full of all kinds shit, but this Sam Green seems to be an elusive character. There was an article people praised on many social media platforms in New York Times when he died in 2011 ("A Collector of People" they called him) but it's behind a paywall and even my Beatles obsession will not make me give money to that paper.

There is a page about him in website called warholstars.org and I found some other stuff too after googling John's will. And oh dear.

There was some pretty disgusting speculation about Green, his one time lover Barbara Baekeland and her son Tony. But since there is no way of knowing whether that story is true, I won't repeat it here. But for anyone interested it's easy to find, just google her name. But be aware: it's disgusting.

But what seems to be true is that he was a close friend of John's and Yoko's and Yoko had an affair with him during the summer of 1980. And even though I loathe Yoko, no judgement. He and John had their own rules and John himself was never faithful to anyone, so fair game. BUT: In his will John named Sam Green to be Sean's guardian in case he and Yoko died. Pretty wild, and it also confirms what Cynthia said in her book "John": that after meeting Yoko John pretty much cut ties with his relatives (including his two half sisters) from his mother's side who had been really close and important to him before that.

Sad and, as far as it comes to Sean, very irresponsible, especially since Green himself apparently found out about this only AFTER John died. Jeez.

There was also an interesting detail in that warholstars- story. It says that when they first moved to NY, John and Yoko practically glued themselves to Warhol's side, demanding that he introduces them to all the "right" people and arranges parties for them every night. But they were not Andy's kind of people. This is straight from the article:

"After about five days of this he (Warhol) called and said: 'I just can't do it any more. They are so boring.' So I took up the cause."

And that's how they ended up with Green.

According to that article Warhol would arrange parties and then J&Y sat huddled together in some corner without speaking to anyone.

It made me giggle at first but then I remembered the young man John was before his demons really started to crush him around 67/68 and it just made me so, so sad.
