The timer on the bomb read fifteen minutes. Now it read ten. And the reason it was taking so long wasn’t because the wiring was complicated it was because Peter and Sam couldn’t agree on which wire to cut.

“It’s always the red wire!” Peter argued, glaring up at Sam, who was floating just above him, using his flight as an excuse to look smug.

“Well, I saw in this one movie with Keanu Reeves, and he cut the blue wire!” Sam countered, crossing his arms.

Peter’s eye twitched behind his spider lenses. “Didn’t he explode in that movie?”

Sam looked momentarily confused, then shrugged. “Nah, it’s definitely blue.”

It wasn’t blue. It wasn’t red either. You knew exactly which wire it was, but every time you reached for it with the tweezers, they stopped you like you were some kind of rookie.

“There’s no way it’s blue! When has it ever been blue? Every movie, every game it’s always red!” Peter snapped, falling back into the same argument he’d been having ten minutes ago.

“I still think it’s blue,” Nova chirped, and out of the corner of your eye, you could see Peter trying not to strangle himself out of frustration.

“Robin, cut red!” Peter barked like he was in charge.

“No, cut blue!” Sam shot back immediately.

The clock ticked louder. Ten seconds left. They were still arguing in your ear. You didn’t have time for this.

You took a breath, ignored them both, and snipped the yellow wire.

The bomb gave a soft click and powered down. Silence.

“Oh,” they both said in unison, equally confused.

No wonder Bruce hated working in teams. It sucked.

“Wow, Bugs, that was a good call,” Peter said, stepping closer, his mask inches from your cheek.

“Excuse me, arachnid boy, what do you think you’re doing?” Sam asked, floating down to your level.

“How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that, buckethead?” Peter growled.

“Who are you calling buckethead, bugbrain?” Sam shot back, their heads touching as they butted heads like angry deer.

You tried to crawl away, but it was too late.

“Where do you think you’re going, Bugs?” Peter asked, his tone teasing.

“Yeah, come make fun of bugbrain with me, Star,” Sam added with a pout.
