Happy St Clare's Day. Everyone has to be especially nice to me today. I don't know who painted this. It was my profile picture on the Facebook account I had before Clare was my legal name. She is the patron saint of television because the story says she watched mass on the wall of her bedroom when she was too ill to attend. More likely that's made up. Assisi (Umbria). Basilica of Santa Chiara (1257). With all due respect to Unesco, to the Vatican City and to the common feeling, Francis and Chiara on the same side, did not like such lavish churches, as compared to others, they maintain their decorum, compared to others that can be to see. It is more important the very rooted vision of a hierarchy or the thought of those who are dedicating churches, betraying in some way their communistic vision. The church was built, after the death of St. Clare, around the ancient church of San Giorgio, which had guarded the remains of Francesco and Chiara. The remains of the saint were translated in 1260. The style is Gothic, and recalls the upper basilica of San Francesco. The exterior is characterized by three large polygonal buttresses in the form of wide flying buttresses that reinforce the left side of the building. The rose has a double turn of columns and arches. The façade ends with a tympanum with an oculus in the middle. The interior of the church is a Latin cross with a single nave (four bays), a transept and a polygonal apse. In the nave there is only one chapel, of Sant'Agnese, dedicated to the sister of St. Clare. On the right side opens the chapel of San Giorgio, formerly part of the primitive church. It is divided into two areas, one of which is the Chapel of the Sacrament. From this room you can access the Oratory of the Crucifix, where the original Crucifix of San Damiano, which spoke to St. Francis, is kept over the altar: "Vade, Francisce, repara domum Meam". In 1257 the Poor Clares moved from the church of San Damiano to the Basilica of Santa Chiara and brought with them the original Crucifix of San Damiano.
