We had a wonderful race day yesterday and it was just windy enough at around 5-10 knots to make it interesting! We sailed for about 2 hours and it’s been a few weeks since we were in the race and my nerves were on edge when we got close to pass other boats, jockeying for position, or when I watched other boats have what appeared to be some close calls! (To my untrained newbie eyes, I’m sure they were all fine.) I have mad respect for race days and the command of so many variables that are going on to compute and adjust for all the different factors that go into and affect the boat while racing. As always, I learned so much! The weather was gorgeous and so was the sunset and twilight. Had some problems with the GoPro 7 after the update and what seems like a memory card incompatibility, so didn’t catch any footage - and I was all ready with my stretchy running belt too! Next week, trying again and hoping for the same or better weather! Sailing out of Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club @ashbridgesbayyachtclub with: ⚓️ Captain Dave ⚓️ 1st Mate Eric ⚓️ Crew-mate Andrea @andreahunniford 🧶 Practice Notes: I remembered my bowline knot from the easy to stick in my brain video by @sailingkoru (turn the key to loop, make an inside u-loop, feed the tail down through u-loop and bring it up alongside, pull the line and flip the switch) and can even do it behind my back! Will show a video one day. 😁 Also figured out the fender knot, it loops in the same direction kinda like a corkscrew! Starting to remember the routine that goes into setting up and tearing down for a sail and it feels so good! I now know the difference between a tack and a jibe (tack - front sail, jibe = main sail) and watching Eric and Dave “trim” the sails is like magic making the boat go faster!
