He looks different. Itâs been months since they last saw each other, but thatâs not what makes a 30-year-old look older so quickly in a city that worships youth. The stubble on his chin is just a touch too long, as if he canât quite decide whether to commit to a full beard. Dark circles around his eyes complete the look, and Tommy doesnât like it.
He clears his throat. âHey.â
Buck grips the doorknob. âHey?â he says; it sounds like a question. âWho sent you?â
âWhy do you think you feel so guilty about Buck getting kidnapped?â the therapist asks, and Eddie swallows. âIt wasnât your fault; if anything, youâre the reason heâs safe and alive right now. You saved him, Eddie.â âI know that now,â Eddie stresses, and his hand rolls into a fist. âBut I didnât. I didnât even suspect Bonnie or Earl, I was so sure it was those homophobic assholes and I almostââ I almost missed him, he thinks. I almost left him with two psychopaths. âBut you didnât. And from what youâve told me, there was no way for you to know it was the welcoming waitress who ran you off the road, rather than the hostile, prejudiced men you almost got into a fight with.â âI guess, but I just thoughtââ Eddie swallows. He doesnât want to admit it to himself, least of all to anybody else. âI was so sure it was them, and they targeted Buck becauseââ âBecause they thought you were a couple?â she suggests, and Eddie closes his eyes. âBecause they thought we were a couple,â he confirms. âAnd does that bother you?â she asks, and Eddieâs eyes snap open. âDoes that make you uncomfortable?â âNo!â he bursts out. âI meanâ Buckâs my best friend. I donât care what other people think. People mistake us for a couple all the time, I donât care about that. But itâs justâ they thought⌠they thought I wasâŚâ Gay, Eddie thinks, and something in his chest wilts. They thought I was gay. âAnd youâre not, I assume?â I donât know. I donât know. Fuck, I donât know. When Eddie doesnât answer, she continues, âSo what Iâve gathered is that you donât care if people think you and Buck are a couple. The thing that bothers you is that they think youâre gay. Am I right?â âIâm not homophobic,â he insists, like heâs trying to convince himself. âIâm not. Itâs just different when itâsââ When itâs me. âI never thought you were, Eddie.â âI was convincedâ I was convinced it was because of me,â Eddie finally confesses, and itâs horrible, and itâs ugly, but itâs the truth. âWhat was because of you?â âThat they thought we were gay,â Eddie says quietly. âThat they thought we were a couple because of me. Because IâŚâ âBecause you what?â âI⌠I donât know,â he ends, unsure. âI justâ I was just so sure it was because of me.â âYou said Buckâs bisexual. Wouldnât it be more logical to assume it was because of Buck?â âNo,â Eddie fires out before he can stop himself. âIâ, well, Buckâs not like me. Heâs notâŚâ âHeâs not what, Eddie?â âI⌠I donât know. Itâs justâ itâs not the same. Nobody cared when he came out. Itâs fine that heâs not straight.â âAnd people would care if you did? If you werenât straight?â âBut I am,â he says, a little too quickly. âBut if you werenât?â Eddie mulls the question over carefully, but comes up empty-handed. He doesnât know what to tell her anymore. âAlright, Eddie. Our session is slowly coming to an end, and weâre scheduled for next week â but in the meantime, Iâd like you to think about what weâve discussed today, okay? Take your time. Thereâs no deadline on this.â âI can⌠I can do that,â he says, and swallows. âIâll do that. Thanks.â Itâs not like heâll be able to think about anything else anyway. The drive home is too long. Or maybe not long enough. Eddie grips the steering wheel harder than necessary, knuckles paling as the therapy session loops in his head. He canât shake it. Because they thought we were a couple. Does that bother you? âNo,â he mutters to the empty car. The one he bought just to get to Buck. âNo, it doesnât.â It doesnât. It shouldnât. Itâs just Buck. And that kind of stuff happens to best friends all the time, right? âŚRight.

what's your headcanon here, nerds
In my random rewatch of Criminal Minds, during s9e14 "200" they flashback to JJ and Emily talking on the jet, their conversation flips to tattoos to cover the brand. JJ indicates Emily could just get another tattoo...
What can you picture being the first, or even multiple, tattoos, that Emily has?
(We will NOT gloss over the fact that JJ knows there's at least one that we never see...)
I'd like some context on the "I've been trying to teach Booth [to play chess], but he keeps referring to the knights as "horsies"."
Like, is Christine in the room while they do this?
Is this part of their date night and Booth is desperately trying to get her to give up the chess lesson?
Was learning chess a part of a quid pro quo and Booth got something in return? (sex in the tub perhaps?)
Did Brennan read somewhere that couples should have a hobby they do together? ("No Booth, solving murders doesn't count!")
Does Booth find "disappointed teacher" Brennan hot? (the answer is yes)
