Sherlock’s father canonically (as of GREE5) took Sherlock to lots of doctors when he was younger to “fix” him (his words, not mine), and clearly internalised the poor treatment of his mother.
Sherlock is undiagnosed, but found a copy of the DSM to self-diagnose. His neurodiversity is important to his character, and he clearly holds it as an important detail of his life.
I think he holds a fundamental distrust/dislike of psychiastrists.

Do you think he tried to do his own stitches (in the prologue, Mr. Sherlock Holmes), even with Stamford - a trained medical professional and surgeon - right there, because he was scared?
