ryusoulger is actually peak. this is so good. PLEASE people watch the thing. but before that. let me speak
ever since kyoryuger i was like. hopping around with sentai seasons. i started a few but never got to continue them. like ninninger. gekiranger. magiranger. not because i got bored of them but its mostly because of life and i wasnt?confident i could finish one the way i finished zenkaiger or toqger or EVEN kyoryuger.
that was when i discovered. another dino sentai. ryusoulger. i started it like. late for shit because i was on a kyoryuger dose. and once i did i binged like? 12 episodes entirely and i was like "yup. break time" and forgot. then this week before my academics i was like "WAIT i need to watch ryusoulger. i miss koh so bad" because i watched 13 on a weekend. and so i locked in
that was the best decision i ever made.
now. back to the actual thing. spoilers ahead
i really like? the symbolism here. now that might be just me but the religious symbolism is oddly showing. and also modern society symbolism. like the idea Eras as God and the Ryusoul Tribe as Adam and Eve and the first society of people, and slowly diving into sin?????? okay. this is NUTS. I really like the idea there, especially since it also reflects today. People are evil, people are reckless and selfish for no good reason and ryusoulger gives a good idea of it.
then once theyre back into battle after being SLIMED and forced into a dream. asuna talks to eras and argues that even IF they were in an eternal dream, she couldn't be with her friends. she couldn't feel the warmth of her friends. She didn't want food. she didn't want success or relief. She wanted her friends. The group isn't just united BY their duty by genes by anything. They're united because they all see eachother as FRIENDS. they're all friends and even if ONE disappeared it wouldn't feel the same. thats what they want. thats what she means.
this is even proven when koh dies (temporarily) and they all get to witness his death. The transformation sequence becomes more melancholy, because koh is like the life of the party for the team itself. If koh isn't there when theyre all together fighting, it wouldnt make SENSE for them to fight without someone they NEED and WANT. It's literally like. theyre a bundle. nobody gets separated. but even if that were to happen. they DIDN'T want to step into kohs space. they knew that empty spot was kohs and it'll forever be koh's. that's how it was during that time and i really liked that detail.
okay back to koh and eras. koh is now in eras' body. since hes dead now. LMFAO. But what's unique is that eras' body is just? lacking light. the only light is their heart/soul that radiates a soft red. its like theyve lost hope in the world considering its state and she literally BERATES the ryusoulgers because theyre just fighting and causing harm to the world and theres no point for them to keep doing it because theyre making themselves LOOK like fools. but koh has other plans. shown below LMFAO
my favorite part about this is that the ryusoulgers also overlap what koh says in the entire scene sequence. it's like? indirect symbolism that even if apart, their hearts are still together. saying the same things. saying the same ideas. they all believe in one idea that unites them. even if koh isnt there physically, hes there with them in their hearts and minds. thats what bonds the ryusoulgers together as a sentai. its not just because "oh! theyre all knights they fight for justice!" thing. its because "they all have different beliefs and viewpoints, but theyre all bonded together because they trust one another as friends and know none of them would betray one another for ones own gain" in general. that's what i love about the ryusoulgers. theyre bonded through friendship and hardships alike.
ANOTHER thing for koh. he has the guts, the urge to question his own MAKER about how they felt. their OWN emotions. provided below. he asks like. have you cried? have you laughed? its like asking; "did you ever feel happy or sad about this world before? did you feel happy to have made us in the first place?"
Yes, the Ryusoulgers are in their 100-200s, but it ALSO acts like human age. They. don't. LAST. They're just like any other human. They aren't like Eras who can live forever. They're still humans whether they like it or not. Koh acknowledges this. Koh KNOWS they can't last, even if they're strong, ever if they're brave. They won't last forever, and they'll die too, someday. Maybe from natural causes, maybe assassination. Koh died. It proves the point; they don't last forever. due to tumblr img max i'll be typing this dialogue koh says down.
"Which is why.. We laugh, and cry.. And live as hard as we can. Even if we fail, we get back on our feet.. So we can be smiling at the end. We live, striving for tomorrow. And… We want to pass our smiles into the future."
Koh doesn't just say this to get through to Eras, he says this because that's what he knows they all did. They cried, they laughed, they lived hard as they could, failed but got up and smiled nonetheless, lived for tomorrow. They did that in their entire journey. From the 1st Episode, up to the 48th. They went through suffering, but came out stronger. That's what the Ryusoulgers are- Knights. Knights go through immense training, but come out stronger than before. That's what knights are. The only thing left to do is to pass their smiles to the next generation. That's what Koh wanted. That's what Asuna wanted. That's what Melto wanted. That's what Towa wanted. That's what Bamba wanted. That's what Canalo wanted. They all wanted to give something for the future.
Eras even questions it, which is peculiar to them. But Koh responds with the restatement.
"Yeah. We're passing it on.. Our lives.. ..Our smiles."
He's even firm when he says it. He wants it to happen. That's something everyone would've wanted. That's what they want to give. Happiness.
at the end. Eras explodes, and they all believe Koh died. That was, till we switch back to Koh's perspective. Where it is all dark, but a light shines. A light from.. the Ryusoulgers. They're coming back for him. They're here to bring him back home. It looks silly but just trust me, its much more heartwarming that it looks. Melto dropped a Ryusoul in Eras' body an episode prior, which was the leading cause as to how Koh was revived, and in this case, saved.
The sweetest part is that they all simultaneously grab for Koh's arm, grabbing him like their lives depended on it. They loved Koh the way he loved them, and the fact it wasn't just a flashbang or a blink sequence for a revival, but a saving sequence. Where the group pulls the dead characters out of the pits to revive them metaphorically. That's just the sweetest thing ever.
and Koh's reaction, makes it even better.
He's so hopeful it hurts. He knows that they really did come to pick him back up, even if he got lost. Even if he went astray. Even if he died. He knew they would come back for him. He knew that, and he felt happy. He was hopeful.
That's something that makes me adore this cast. They all care for each other so much that it hurts. ITS SEEPING INTO MY VEEIIIINS. They all trust one another that they wouldn't leave each other no matter what happens. No matter what comes for them, they all stay together. As a group, as friends. They cared enough that they all grieved for Koh. They cared enough that they would reach out for Towa the moment his Ryusoul was taken. They cared enough that even at the risk of them breaking apart, they united as one whole. They truly, aren't just a Sentai- But Friends. Family. Whatever they'll put it as. They're one entire group that love one another.
