Every single time I rewatch Volume 3 and see Weiss honest, enthusiastic and child-like reaction to seeing her sister after so long MY HEART FUCKING BREAKS.
Weiss before becoming a member of Team RWBY would've NEVER allowed herself to express joy so earnestly, so purely! But spending time around her friends helped her to feel safe and respected, even to act out with excitement and loudly. This is SO important.
This child had been stuck in a world where pose and grace was her prison and suddenly she found a place to be free and feel loved enough to just let go and be true.
Of course, Winter had not followed such progression and reacts like the Schnee family reacts. Soon Weiss remembers and tries to 'behave' herself, yet unable to fully be back to her rigid self because she's still in a safe and welcoming environment and she has been fundamentally changed by the time she spent with Team RWBY.
