"volume 10 will reportedly modernize the franchise's 3d cgi animation style" holy shit am i actually going to get what i wanted all along 😭
SO. Volume 10.
Let's be clear: right now they are WRITING, which is technically the pre-production stage. It is probably gonna be a long while before the season starts releasing — usually, when one volume finished releasing, the next one was already at least partially written. Even assuming Viz allocates more animators and staff to RWBY Volume 10 than RoosterTeeth could ever muster on their own, we have a wait ahead! It'll probably be at least eight months, and maybe over a year, before regular volume release starts again.
THAT IS OKAY.
We have waited a long time for new volumes before!!! We are a patient, innovative, and hard-working fandom. We stayed alive and passionate and creating through scandals and cancellations and pandemics and all of WB's nonsense when they owned RT. THIS TOO SHALL PASS.
In the meantime, the (non-toxic) members of the FNDM will do what we do best — theories, art, fiction and fun!
”The pilot was better.”
Well… I suppose but that’s only because it was a proof of concept overall and malleable in terms of how the direction could go. A fertile ground for theories, predictions and fanfics for fans to make. Often using their own guesswork from what dots they could connect. Said fan work feels personal with how much time and emotional investment poured into it.
But the creator isn’t obligated to follow one fan’s theory, fic or what-have-you since their crew chart their own course with their own vision. A vision that will develop into something that will inevitably piss some fan from the pilot days off.
You mourn not what was but what you thought you saw in it. What the show proper was not required to be. And that can suck but… that’s life, buddy. Better to love and loss than to never love at all. Such is the game of dice we play with these indie pilots.
This will be the day we've waited for

Now, I'm all for a soft visual reboot of RWBY's visual style, there's plenty of modernizations it would benefit from.
So...I had a quick look at Sola Digital Arts' library of projects, and... hm. Yeah.
I'll put my hands up and say that 'ugly' is subjective. But their 3D animation style looks like it hasn't evolved since 2010.
I really hope they don't stray too far from the source material.
What do you think?
Something Underrated is how Oscar is Wiser than Ozpin
At least in emotional intelligence
Similar to how in the Little Prince the adults’ “wisdom” is narrow — they’re knowledgeable about their own tasks but blind to emotional truths because they didn't practice to remember those things.
And becoming someone who can understand what others need emotionally whether it be trust or support is what keeps you grounded in meaningful connections and prevents you from drifting into the empty, mechanical priorities that cause people to lose themselves.
Which connects to Oscar's quote in Volume 6 despite his fated merge:
"I don't know how much longer I'm going to be... me. But I did some thinking, and I do know that I want to do everything I can to help with whatever time I have left."
