Day 171 Piccolo 1 Solo from Shostakovich Symphony 10 Mvt 1
Sometimes the last thing you want to do when you get home, is practice, but with a rehearsal space this beautiful, it makes it really easy.
You know you're a musician when:
Your driving to work, taking the highway and you find yourself saying loudly "You need to merge in tempo!" In the silence of your own car.
So contrary to what a lot of people may think, one of the reasons I love playing flute, and even more so, piccolo, is because it gives me a sense of power. The broad dynamic and emotional range these instruments give me is truly magnificent. As someone who struggles with conveying emotions verbally sometimes, I can really let everything out when I'm playing flute and it gives you such a magical feeling. With this instrument I can demand the attention of the audience, but also play a strong supporting role to other instruments and really blend into their timbres and create a magical experience. Much like how an artist has a tool box filled with their brushes and paints, the flutes I'm playing, whether bass, alto, c flute, or piccolo, act as brushes, and with them I can create a vast range of colours and washes, it's truly beautiful. Instrumental Condescension,
Quite often I find people like to say, "oh this instrument is so much harder to learn than this one." Or "Flute is so easy, try violin." And I strongly disagree. That being said, I do believe that violin or any string instrument for that is quite challenging, but no one ever wants to take in account the different requirements. While flute may be "easier" to pick up, developing a mastery over tone, musicality and technique, is not easier. I've showed my string player friends my technique exercises and they flip out. So I really hate when people are lecturing a class and they blow off the wind instruments as being so much easier than string instruments, it's rude and it really tears down the hard work that I do and it's not polite.

I just love piccolo so much. Like I'm so emotional right now. A lot of you don't know, but piccolo is the reason I started playing flute and I just love it sooo much. Honestly if I could be a piccolo major I would do that instead of flute instantly. I just feel so majestic and powerful with piccolo. It's so good tell me what you love about piccolo.
Hello everyone! I’m proposing a Music Challenge to all of you! So as some of you may know, I love contemporary music, a passion that was ignited by tumorsandmusic themselves, and as part of my music history course last year I had the pleasure of learning about “Avant-Garde” composition styles, one of which really struck me was Aleatory Music, which basically means music of chance. This style has several subsections, one of which is graphic scores, where as seen above the musician is left to interpret the meaning of the score. This creates a really interesting variety of performances, with no two being the exact same.
So down to the Challenge, here’s what’s up folks.
1.) If tagged it would be super awesome if you could post a recording or video with your interpretation of the piece.
2.)Pretty pretty please tag me in it! I want to hear everyone!!!!! Also if you could tag it “The Great Aleatory Challenge” so we can all see what everyone is doing that would be great!!
3.) try and tag some friends that you want to hear play this piece!
4.) Try and provide a link to the score when you post your recording so your tagged friend can see the score and know what they’re doing and read the brief score explanation that I will provide!
Notes about the Score:
1.)You don’t have to read the score in the orientation it’s posted in, you can rotate it however you want, hence the title on all sides.
2.)Ignore the Title! That’s just the mood that was evoked in me when I was playing it.
