Bernie Sanders, minimum wage.
So recently i was having a friendly debate about politics. Me being conservative and a business major arguing against the ideas of raising the minimum wage and redistributing wealth and income from a Bernie Sanders supporter. The first thing that came up was the statement "a livable wage". That's a very tricky statement because the phrase livable is going to vary depending on the economy and the nation. Now in America, the minimum wage is $7.25 based on federal or varying based on state. For example my state of Illinois has an $8.25 minimum wage. So raising the minimum wage to $15 as Sanders has declared is going to have multiple effects. First of its going to reduce the available amount of jobs. From a economical view point, businesses are going to be increasing their variable labor cost. They are going to have to start looking at their business models and look to cut out some of the disposable costs. That usually means people. They are going to look at these costs and because they need to remain profitable they will most likely cut costs. The second thing raising the minimum wage does is shrink the labor pool they will hire from. Minimum wage jobs are low skill, or no skill jobs. Meant to be the first step on a ladder to get to a higher, better career. That's why a lot of minimum wage jobs hire teenagers and college students. But by raising the wage to nearly double the business is going to look at the available potential employees, and they went hire anyone who is low skill. The low skill workers are not worth $15/hr. Instead they will hire employees who are worth $15/hr, that have multiple years experience and useful skills like managment. A third thing that will occur is the cost of living will go up. If you increase the minimum wage for every single job, it's going to have to increase the costs of things. Any place that hires minimum wage will have to increases prices to compensate for the increases in costs. Money has to come from somewhere, it doesn't just magically appear. A fourth thing that may happen is that the increased minimum wage is going to pull people from pursuing more difficult jobs like EMT. It removed the incentive, EMTs require schooling and have a high pressure job. No one is going to want to do that if it pays the same as McDonalds. Now this last point is not necessarily going to happen, it was just something i thought of while writing this and i thought I'd share. I'll try and post the other arguments about wealth redistribution later.
I hear
Rand at the Big Boys Table.
Democratic Debate
I will be live blogging the whole thing.
I'm really interested as your the first person I've seen on here against sanders and it would be good to get a different pov, what about him is so unrealistic?
This guy says it a lot better thank I could, and he’s hella informed
Go ahead and look around his blog for a bit. I agree with about 95% of what he says
My main problem with Sanders is his socialism
Socialism fails every time
What about Scandinavia? Their socialism came after great economic success, and their culture supports it, that would not work in america, not in this century at least.
The state cannot generate wealth, it can only administer and distribute it.
Where would Sanders get the money to create a society with socialism without taxes raising a ridiculous amount?
Taxing the rich won’t help. What we should do instead is decrease the size of the government and decrease government spending.
The government shouldn’t be involved in private affairs. They shouldn’t have control over who i marry, they should delegate things to state and local offices.

Rand and Rubio. Also Fiorina. Any one of them would be a good president. If Rand gets it, he should take one of the other two as his running mate
Rand
is killing it.
I almost feel sorry for Trump.
It always blows my mind when mutuals from two very different parts of the tumblr community interact with each other. Like, how did this happen? Where is this going? What?
