Currently placed 1st in my virtual race today let’s see how long this lasts!
6.5km this morning on tired tired legs. This week has been a good run week, Over 50km with combined incline of over 800metres. Cross training tomorrow and then I’m scaling right back for two weeks to go away on holidays, relax, eat, and live in a bikini by the pool. And for once I’m not going to be self conscious about it, we’ll that’s the plan anyway ;)
Winter has finally arrived - woho!! I love winter with snow, skiing, low temperatures and the fuzzy feeling of coming inside after being out in the cold!
Today I ran for the first time in my new shoes. They felt really good, and had a great grip on the ice glazed road. I am getting more and more impressed with New Balance, and maybe they will become my go-to-brand? ;)
After my little run I went to my local café to drink my fav drink - double latté with oat milk. Oatmilk is my new obsession, and it is a really good alternative to ordinary milk :)
Getting out the door for this was so hard, even if it was only a mile. It was very cold and I came to the conclusion that I need some more long sleeved base layers. Today I wore my lined tights, a vest, T-shirt, fleece lined sweater and my thick black body warmer and I needed every single item of clothing. And I am not someone who gets cold easily, in fact, I pride myself in being able to run in shorts the majority of the year. I had a morning at my new job which was total information overload but very exciting. Then I went to ride my horse and it was so so cold, I had a great gallop though! I did some core work after my run which I’m trying so so hard to be consistent with despite the fact that I hate it. So run streak day 6 is in the books, on to a full week tomorrow 🏃

So today this happened:
- I took a nap in the middle of the day
- I got a strava account! Who else is on strava? I want strava friends! You can find me if you look for "Veertje Meneertje" (I'm not kidding)
After this weekend the holiday is over. Just checked my schedule and I will not be off till Christmas??? First midterms are a week before the marathon, which is sort of convenient bc I'll be tapering by then :') Furthermore I'm unsure how I'm going to cope: studying weekdays, working weekend nightshifts, upcoming training peak weeks and I have also enrolled for extra "honours" classes bc they're cool. It's a bit daunting all together.
At the same time, it feels for all these things that now is the time. It feels like the best time to run a marathon. It feels like the time to take all the opportunities that I get. On a romantic occasion once, someone told me that if time were waves, we could ride them. And we could be the people that catch the waves and if we did well, we'd keep on riding them. The best way to describe now is that I've caught a wave.
Good morning! Whenever I spend the weekend at my sister's, I get an 8 mile run and brunch at my favorite cafe. I drive into town and park a car, run 4 miles back to my sister's, wake her and my mother up, then we run the 4 miles back together and can drive home after. In a nutshell- I get 4 fast miles, 4 slow miles, and the best damn veggie frittata in the state. Lovely morning!
March 18 - 2017 Run Club: if it's not one thing, it's another...
This week's exercise was a mixed bag. I got in exercise every day, but only three of those days were runs. So if it wasn't running, it was something else.
As I mentioned a week ago, after getting spoiled with early Spring weather, Old Man Winter decided he had to get in one last shot before his season came to an end. So Sunday I bundled up and had a Rest Day run of 36 minutes. Monday I was going to bicycle, but between the cold temps and strong Kansas wind I decided to get some time in on the stationary bicycle instead.
Tuesday I set a PR of sorts. I ran to my bank, taking a little over an hour. Then after finishing business there, I ran back taking a more scenic route than I usually do. I ran a total of 2:02:00 for the most running I've done in a single day!
Wednesday I biked to the Y for weight training. Thursday or Friday I was going to try and go for two hours of running with no breaks, but responsibilities of work came in and I wound up bicycling both days. (Not that I'm complaining; I LOVE bicycle riding!)
So today I I decide to take a new route for my run past the post office and along the north side of Eisenhower Airport. I completed an hour and 16 minutes of uninterrupted running!
Tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid-80's. But I know fron experience that, even after Spring has sprung, sometimes Winter has to make a final appearance or two. So let's see what the week brings.
