Ansuz is primarily Odin's rune and represents communication, creativity, control, and divine power. Spirituality is the rune of prophecy and revelation. It also encompasses the idea of wisdom, knowledge, reason, and therefore of instruction and good advice. It might also refer to a test, examination, or perhaps an interview. It can mean a letter, book, paper, message, or other information. Because Lioki was a renowned trickster, Ansuz may also suggest a surprise, trick, or subterfuge. Ansuz is a symbol of stability and represents order, no matter what problems may come to be. The answers to questions are available but not yet recognized. Look for signs and confirmations that are all around. Everything has significance, and appreciation of this will lead to understanding. Ensure you don't ignore the message because you don't like the context. All experience is a lesson that teaches by acknowledging the truth. Knowledge and wisdom will increase.

Berkana symbolizes springtime and new beginnings. It is a birth rune and is especially powerful in feminine-associated matters. It marks the time when the laws of existence are set, and life is ready to begin in earnest.

If Teiwaz is the fundamental masculine mystery, then Berkana certainly belongs to the feminine, for it represents the path of the creator, the healer, and the midwife, bringing new life after death just as the birch puts out the first leaves after winter and represents the family and the home, and represents the enjoyment of sexual relations, fertility, and birth. Birth in this context can be literal or symbolic, such as the successful start of a new idea or enterprise.

Because of its position as the 13th rune, it is sometimes considered the death rune.

The shape of Dagaz represents a stable balance between polar opposites, especially between day and night. It is the rune of the light of day, midday, and midsummer. All of those times are full of strength and well-being. Dagaz has great protective powers and is also a rune of health, prosperity, and new openings. It will stop harm from entering, but will still allow those helpful energies that we need to come into our lives. In the spiritual realm, Dagaz gives us access to cosmic awareness.

Ehwaz symbolizes an unbreakable bone, a true friendship. It demands serious intentions to make sure the matter at hand will be successful. Also, Ehwaz enables us to make sure that our tasks flow from the beginning to the end. It is controlled change, progress, and sometimes a journey. It also represents partnership, trust, loyalty, and faithfulness, such as that between a horse and rider, siblings, and two halves of the same whole. You have the support you need to make swift progress towards your goal. But you must be loyal and supportive to those around you, as they are to you. The horse is proud, but that does not impede its purpose. So while you can be proud of your achievements, you must remain humble to ensure your journey reaches a successful conclusion.
