Run On is cute as hell—and quietly brilliant.

It nails that weird, kinda-awkward-but-sweet phase right after getting into a relationship when everything’s still new and slightly offbeat. It’s so real. No grand romantic gloss—just two people learning how to be vulnerable, honest, and awkward together.

Also: no one should ever have to run as much as Ki Seon-gyeom. Sir, thank you for your service. Your calves deserve rest. And snacks.

The university student pain? 100% accurate. Woo-sik is a soft lil baby and must be protected at all costs. The PA deserved so much better. Every character felt grounded in the real world where things are complicated and imperfect. There’s never a fairytale moment where everything magically works out—and that’s what makes it perfect.

Seon-gyeom himself is a masterclass in non-toxic masculinity. He cries. He’s aware of his emotions—even if he doesn’t quite know how to name them or handle them. He never tries to dominate anyone, and when he does fight, he makes it clear the violence isn’t the point. His strength isn’t in throwing punches, but in his insistence that even justified violence needs accountability. In a sports world where silence is standard, Seon-gyeom speaks up. That’s power. That’s masculinity redefined.

And let’s talk about Oh Mi-joo. She prioritises her self-worth, reminds Seon-gyeom (and us) that she has to live with herself forever, and encourages him to learn to love himself too. That’s a partner. That’s growth. Seo Dan-ah doesn’t sacrifice her ambition for love—she learns about giving and taking, and Lee Yeong-hwa matures through loving and letting go. These characters don’t exist to complete each other—they help each other evolve.

Even small details felt intentional—like using more complex Korean names like Seon-gyeom, not just ones that are easy for English-speaking audiences to pronounce. It’s a small resistance, but a meaningful one.
