       the throne room is dazzlingly bright, overwhelming in the splendor of its architechture and all at once completely befitting the first gathering of young royals from across the globe. champagne flutes are balanced precariously on golden trays, paraded around the room by trim waiters in flawless tuxedos. the scene as a whole embodies the absolute picture of wealth and opulence. as the young leaders mingle around the room, sampling canapés and delicately sipping their champagne, a nondescript gentleman, remarkable only for his advanced age in a room full of unlined features, makes his way to the front of the hall. many of the people in the room have no idea who he is -- but to the outside world, he is more important than they realize. he is, after all, the secretary general of the united nations. he takes the podium, gently clinking the side of his own champagne glass until the room falls quiet, faces turning toward him with varying degrees of interest and boredom.

       “good evening and welcome to iceland!” he booms, shockingly loud for such a small man. “we are aware that some people here might have some... differences in opinion. however, it is much more important to remember that this is a joyous occasion. all of you are, hopefully, a new start for a new world -- one that has a better and brighter future. one that will hold hope for your children, and your children’s children. that is what is at stake here, so i will warn you: take this seriously. there could be dire consequences if you don’t.” and with that, he steps down, leaving the young leaders to murmur amongst themselves.
