This is not a translation but I just wanted to share some research I did on the song Heather sang in Race to the Edge Season 3 Episode 9 "Tone Death"
The song is a poem written by Eugene Field and first published in 1892. Heather only sings the first verse but the full poem has three verses that each highlight a different figure: the storm king in the first, the mother pine in the second, and the singer (presumably the mother who is singing to her child).
Here is the full poem:
"The sky is dark and the hills are white As the storm-king speeds from the north to-night, And this is the song the storm-king sings, As over the world his cloak he flings: "Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep;" He rustles his wings and gruffly sings: "Sleep, little one, sleep."
On yonder mountain-side a vine Clings at the foot of a mother pine; The tree bends over the trembling thing, And only the vine can hear her sing: "Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep; What shall you fear when I am here? Sleep, little one, sleep."
The king may sing in his bitter flight, The tree may croon to the vine to-night, But the little snowflake at my breast Liketh the song I sing the best,— Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep; Weary thou art, anext my heart Sleep, little one, sleep."

This website goes deep into the meaning of it if you're interested.
The main point of my research was actually to find sheet music for it and I discovered that four or five people have composed different music for the poem: David Barton, Ralph L. Baldwin, Norman O'Neill, Anna Marie Maddalena Gonzalez, and Hannah Brown (this one is on Musescore so it's probably not very official but I really like this one so I felt the need to at least mention this composer/score). Most of the scores cost money :C so I couldn't play them but the one on Musescore and the one by Baldwin are free use:

I'm disappointed with Fishlegs' character and kinda hate Heather/Fishlegs
Now that I suddenly have a bunch of followers from my last post to lose, I think my most "unpopular" httyd opinion is def not being fond of Fishlegs, and actively hating Heather/Fishlegs.
Lol, just to explain. For Fishlegs, I think his experience and ability to recognise dragons, and study them is rather underutilised. He had a few good scenes with Ruffnut, and I don't think his solo episode with the night terrors was bad it was just moreso there. I think I personally just find most jokes about him being nervous or fat just not funny. I feel like Fishlegs is always talked about as a "sweet" character whilst not doing anything but have a nice comment? Sure it works to tell you he's sweet, but does he ever go out of his way to comfort or understand the riders when they're struggling? When he learns that he shouldn't try to force dragons to stay with him over and over again, does he ever do anything with it? When he and Hiccup hang out, do they actually bond? Ya know, I don't hate him, but there's just so much he could be doing that the other characters do that Fishlegs just doesn't.
What I do hate is 100% Heather/Fishlegs. Is it good rep to show an attractive woman seeing more in a man? Sure. Do I hate on others for liking it? No, absolutely not, that's weird. But I just can't stand it.
For one, Heather just randomly announces a crush on him, after no interaction besides her trapping him in a tree. Then suddenly, after not talking for 2 seasons, they've been sending letters, which would be pretty cute if Fishlegs just weren't so possessive about it. He just decides the edge is the best place for her because he wants to be with her, not because of her situation or fears of being alone. Hiccup seems more concerned with actually showing her that she's accepted on the edge. After that, literally all they do in every scene together is call one another's name.
Then, when Dagur comes back, possessive Fishlegs is in full swing, and I physically cannot watch that scenes where Dagur says to Fishlegs that Heather will be safe with him and Fishlegs says she better be. LIKE DUDE NOT AT ALL YOUR PLACE. I just hate it cause it just such a weird way to talk about someone you're barely in a relationship with. I just think both characters look worse with the relationship. Ruff/fishlegs should have either started earlier or had more scenes settiing them up.
Okay, I'm done. I'll hide from the pitchforks now, mostly just wanted to explain my feelings on it in case I ever mention my disliking Fishlegs, and the idea that it's about weight comes up again. I really hate it when you try to talk about not liking a representative character due to their personality or actions in the story, and it becomes against them physically. Just to be clear, Fishlegs has a very good design. I really like that both he and Meatlegs are in the group AND are used effectively in situations where they can be beneficial, even though they make fat jokes about Fishlegs.
Random Httyd/rtte headcanon of the day:
Heather and Dagur never gave up their dragons because Berk left so quickly they didn’t even know how to find them again.
However the world started shifting on its own, and slowly Sluether and Windshear seemed to be drawn further and further away from Beserker island. Along with every other dragon around.
At first heather assumed. Hoped. The king of dragons was just moving around the island or her presence had gotten stronger. That even when they were seastacks out of range Windshear was just tired when she suddenly veered off course, that she was just getting older when she no longer seemed interested in playful races or training. Some dark part of her fearing abandonment once more hoped her friend was just sick. That yet another soul wouldn’t send her away or be claimed by something out of her control.
Heather fought against it, ensuring their stable was always fully stocked with all the dragons could want, made sure she never left Windshear long enough to feel lonely, avoided duties, avoided Windshear’s gaze as her dragon stared at her, tears whipped away at that knowing look as she continued on. She just couldn’t do this again…
Until eventually one day Heather woke up and Windshear was gone. Her first friend since her village was destroyed, who kept her safe when no one else was there to, who stayed with her when no else would, the only thing she could allow herself to love now a pile of shedded silver scales and silence.
Dagur watched Sluether leave, it was an odd moment, they’d just got back from visiting Mala where she’d told them about the eruptondon leaving and their plans to move away from their island, and were sitting near the stables. The ride back and been weird, he’d tried to get his dragon’s mood up like usual by chatting away about his battle stories but he just seemed… distant, low grumbles and gaze tilted towards the horizon. He just kinda knew something was off as they landed, so Dagur sat with him. In the dirt overlooking their home, uncaring to the grime and fatigue present in them both.
Sleuther lept up to a boulder overlooking their spot, his legs wobbled and scratched at the stone as his wings seemed to jut between open and closed his scorpion tail pointed towards the skyline as his head looked between it and back at dagur. Dagur gave his friend a soft melancholy smile, he had long since learned you can’t force anyone to stay, to be what he wanted them to be, and though it stung to have yet another friend leave he didn’t want to make it any worse on them by trying to stop it. Slowly Sluether nodded graditude present in his deep coal gaze before taking off.
Dagur watched his figure fade into the sunset for a long time, silent as someone joined his side, silent as he put his arm over her shoulder, silent as they both cried for what was lost.
Would Heather from Race to the Edge have a galarian Meowth?

🌕📚Fishder📚🌕
Can you imagine what living at the edge is like just casually?
You wake up, and already Fishlegs is off in a cave somewhere, almost dying, Snoutlout has accidentally taken Astrid's axe, and she's presently hunting him down across the entire base with a vengeance upon realising he broke it. The twins are either cheering her on or have managed to coat half the base in monstrous Nightmare gel, which is, in fact, not helping the situation at all. Heather is trying to establish any semblance of normalcy by stopping Astrid from killing Snotlout, and finally, Hiccup crashlands in after testing his latest version of the flight suit, smacks a map down on the table like "I KNOW WHERE VIGGO IS, LET'S GET HIM!"
The raw, unmatched power of a bunch of unsupervised 18-20-year-olds without jobs should be feared and admired.
