Royal Relics
The Athenee Hotel in Bangkok stands on the grounds of a former royal residence, Kandhavas Palace. During the early 1900s, the palace was home to Her Royal Highness Princess Valaya Alongkorn, daughter of King Chulalongkorn of Siam.
The designs and motifs of the historic property are the key inspiration of the hotel’s interior and were greatly influenced by the princess herself.
The most visible of these influences can be seen in the Vimarn Siam Royal Theme Suite, where select guests can embark on a “Royal Roots” heritage tour.
Visitors are also invited to learn ancient Thai rituals, such as the making of Siamese potpourri and the art of folding lotuses, to better understand the rich history and background of Thailand.
