Boomer being an Idiot in a nutshell with Brick not amused with Boomer being an Idiot

Summary: A wee shred of a homunculus on my development of the Puffs' relationships with the Ruffs, and peeling back the curtain for a peak at Buttercup's behavior management growing up. More brainstorm than drabble

Buttercup makes the Ruffs’ first few years of having abilities a living hell

Chasing them through alleyways, physically provoking them

She’s beyond curious about just how similar and diverse they are from each other— The Puffs: more than human; the Ruff... them. And her curiosity makes the Ruff’s first few years of having abilities so much harder than it already was.

Professor eventually hears about all the harm Buttercup’s been getting up to, and after getting some voluntary advice from the mayor and Ms Bellum, he sends her out on some sort of “find yourself” bullshit trip. It’s akin to those wilderness trips that they send kids out to, to “correct” their behavior.

In summary, it ends up doing more damage to her than helping— something that the Professor will live to regret for a long time, but never finds the time to talk about

When Buttercup got sent away, Robin was quick to notice and ask the girls about it, to which Blossom defended the Professor’s decision upon Robin expressing her concerns and disagreement. Bubbles and Blossom often overheard a muffled screaming and wailing through the other side of Buttercup’s walls for weeks on end once she returned. Brick and the other Ruffs watched how Buttercup went from chasing them around in alleyways, and yelling crude renditions of their names upon seeing them-- to crossing to the furthest streets whenever she caught sight of them-- and at most, interactions being catching her staring at them from across a room for an uncomfortable amount of time before averting her attention back to the person or thing at hand

Despite whatever Buttercup refuses to tell anyone about wilderness therapy, including even Brick, Buttercup's curiosity over the Rowdyruffs' capabilities never really dies

and Brick, on the other hand, never lets herself forget it. Despite how close they get after Buttercup returns from wilderness therapy-- from strangers to enemies, to tolerant and then as friendly as you could call them now, Brick sees how often Buttercup wants to pry about it still whenever they’re just together. How often she still stares at Boomer and Butch kicking around a ball in the water, as if she were waiting for one of them to waterbend in the lake, or grow a pair of wings and spit up a hurricane of fire.

Brick's come to recognize that engrossed glaze in the Puff's eyes, and it never fails to piss her off
