I love books based in Mythology and I received advanced copies of two books last week that are based in Greek Mythology: In a Garden Burning Gold by Rory Power (book description in comments) and Elektra by Jennifer Saint. . What is your favorite character or creature from mythology? . I have many but the first that always comes to mind is Cassandra from Greek mythology. She is the sister of Paris (from Troy) and was lusted after by Poseidon. When she refused to sleep with the God, he cursed her by giving her the gift of foresight but making it so no one would ever believe her. I always felt for poor Cassandra. I don’t know how many times I have warned people about something, they’ve ignored it, and then it came to pass just like I said. Wilder Girls by Rory Power . I was really enjoying this, from the strange and vivid biology in both the students and animals to the powerful moments of body horror that made me squirm and grimace. However, in the last few chapters, it took everything it had built and threw it away. It was going so well until suddenly characters jumped to huge conclusions from nothing, making a crazy leaps towards an end that really didn’t feel earned. If the novel had finished a handful of chapters earlier, even with things left unrealised, it would have been a more satisfying finish, instead it made me regret investing my time.
