Things like that make you wonder just why in the hell did anyone even bother forming relationships.

But there’s a catch to that; while disappearances and the like were a common occurrence, there was still the very real likelihood that someone could return at a later point in time. Yet that comes with another issue all on it’s own. Are they the same person you had known for months prior to their disappearance, or are they an entirely new version of themselves all together?

Maybe new really isn’t the right word to use. It’s a rather subjective thing, isn’t it? This person might not be the same one you’ve spent a great deal of time with, forming all sorts of memories together and creating a bond you once not thought possible. But at the very core they’re still that same person you met in the first place.

It’s a messy subject, one that you have to wonder how the many denizens of Spirale feel about. But at the very least we can learn of one man’s personal feelings on the matter. He’s confused right now. Shocked. The last few weeks or so had been spent in an absolutely horrible and miserable funk given recent issues. Yet all of that had to be put on hold for the time being. A face he had not seen for god knows how long had decided to come back into his life. Or to be more specific his current perspective.

There’s no telling if this is the same Jacob the Boss had come to hang around with what seems like forever ago. He wants it to be. Is kind of desperate for it. But he’s going to try his hardest keep expectations at a minimum and see what comes of this so-called reunion.

“ You’re kidding me. Is that really you? ” Scratch that, guess he just had to ask.

“ Jesus Christ, Jacob. Has it really been that long? ”

Stella wasn’t sure how she’d attracted the attention of so many birds. She’d been sitting in the park, under a tree, minding her own business when the first bird appeared. Then another, then another, and now there were 5 birds on her and a duck in her lap. She was frozen, trapped, she couldn’t move or the birds would be scared.

“ Well, well, well. Look who decided to rear his ugly head back here. Took ya long enough. Wasn’t the same without you. ”

All in all it did seem like things were starting to turn around. Not that they were bad per se, but they certainly weren’t meeting his expectations. And after running a vast and powerful criminal empire for several years now it really was no wonder why said expectations were so high.

And so here we find the Boss of the 3rd Street Saints waiting out in the lobby of a hot springs resort, located right in the Cotes Ward. Alongside him are best friend and former second-in-command (now general) Johnny Gat, and resident man out of time and new lieutenant to the Saints Jacob Frye. Hopefully their guests would arrive soon as the Boss had paid the owner of this resort to let them in earlier than usual in order to keep their conversations much more private. Last thing anyone needed was some rat going off and informing the local pigs what might be going on.

“ You’d think these guys would be a little more punctual, huh? God forbid what they’d do when there’s an emergency happening. ”

Now what’s a birthday without a bit of splurging for yourself? Browsing through album after album the Boss is currently making an attempt to redo his personal music collection since that’s basically gone for good now. Such a shame as he had quite the vast selection of music, ranging from so many different genres across so many different decades. He was proud of it, and damn did he love sharing it with others whenever he got the chance to.

“ Where the hell is Dire Straits....... ”

there is nothing quite like the feeling one gets while sitting at a rooftop’s edge and watching people walk the streets below. during the two great coups of corvo’s lifetime, he spent more time above than on the paving stones, and still finds comfort in being in a position to observe.

the currency here is, of course, different to the coin of the empire, but it seems the royal protector has been given a respectable amount to start with. his first purchase? some matches, two cigars, and a fifth of whiskey. lightweight that he is, the whiskey will last him more than a few days.

just as corvo lights a match and brings it to the end of the cigar between his fingers, he hears footsteps on the roofing tiles behind him, and turns toward the sound with an eye of suspicion. a younger man is the source, looking similarly surprised to find another at this elevation.

there is an air of danger about him — or perhaps he is a danger seeker? regardless, corvo decides to tentatively welcome him.

❝ i won’t ask how you got up here, ❞ he says, clearing his throat before finally lighting his cigar. ❝ do you smoke? ❞
