i hate her
snezhnaya AQ, act 2, no context:
am i the only one who felt ronova's characterization in snezhnaya was jarring?
my impression of ronova up until now was only in broad strokes. she seems the most loyal to the Heavenly Principles, she loves rules and structure, she is politely detached from the plights of humanity, in the way you'd imagine a god of death to be. is this impression completely accurate to what was intended? probably not, but i wasn't expecting to feel so caught off guard by her behavior in snezhnaya. between the scheming and villain monologue, it all felt so out of left field. i mean, her saying she "wanted to watch a show about death," and found "entertainment" in the events of act ii felt like the complete opposite of what i would've expected from her cool detachment.
so i revisited her previous scenes, and i can sort of see where all this came from, but i'm still.. conflicted. Yohualtecuhtin said Ronova helped her establish the Night Kingdom as an "act of love," but grew indifferent after being reprimanded by the Heavenly Principles for it. but like.. she worked with Natlan to resolve everything in the end of that quest. she allowed them to make their own decision as long as her pact was fulfilled. it just feels like a huge jump to me.
i think most of my displeasure comes from the fact that this new ronova is simply less interesting to me. ronova's previous "benevolence" was compelling to me because it upholds what we also know about phanes, that they used rules and control as an expression of their "care" for humanity. it's that nuance that makes the narrative of celestia intriguing and realistic to me. not maniacal body-snatching and villain caricatures.
Ronova with Natlan: Here's the Ode of Resurrection which will bring your dead back (with conditions).
Ronova with Snezhnaya: I cast Curse of Death upon thee

GENSHIN MAKE RONOVA PLAYABLE AND MY LIFE IS YOURS
Ronova in the new archon quest awakened something in me…. I think I have a thing for women that will kill you if you even breath at them the wrong way
Arlecchino is another perfect example of that and ofc I have her and her weapon
(Ofc my girlfriend is the exception to that. She’s a sweet angel and I love her)
the snezhnaya archon quest was BRUTAL and i NEED to talk about this.
i dearly love it when genshin explores the horror side of itself. like yeah, it’s an anime gacha game with an outrageous sexualization problem. and that makes the deeper parts of it all the more enjoyably shocking.
the graphics and the music really did it this time. yep. i was scared. when i tell you i was legitimately afraid to look at the screen during some parts of ronova’s ‘show about death’, i mean only that this game has left me in awe once again.
even the character chemistry—something i personally think is a fifty-fifty with genshin, ironic as it may be—did mostly hit the spot. vodyanitsa and odette’s relationship (outside of the ever-present rivalry for the traaaveler’s heaaaart, of course) is something i’m really looking forward to seeing the fandom’s interpretation of.
oh, and the lore. it was so relieving seeing pierro reveal actual information to us at the end of the quest. in my experience, these ending dialogues haven’t really served for anything until now.
ALSO WE GOT TO SEE PANTALONE AGAIN YAYYYY. the way he makes the hard sh sound in the english va? very elite. delicious.
it might sound like i’m complaining too much, but honestly this has been an amazing quest and i hope it keeps the amazingness up in the future!! really excited for everything else snezhnaya has in store
STUPIDLY COOL INTRODUCTION
