Night has once again arrived to greet us. And yet another day has carelessly surrendered to the bottomless pantheon of the past. You loved the dark, I remember. We both did. The dark, not the bleakness, not the darkness of the soul. The lack of light is like a smooth caress. It hides and highlights our fears and guilts; it illuminates what cannot be seen during the day.

We also adored light, but in a different way, with a love not wrapped in mysticism. The colors! Each of us had a different favorite. Yours was blue, ocean blue, sky blue; for me, it was red, flaming red, blood red. Sky, sea, and fire. These were the colors that not only painted the real world but also our secret one.

I wanted to cross your sea and sky like a sparkling flame, but you were afraid of that. You wanted to avoid, if not tame, the flame, control it, and I was afraid of that.

So many differences we had, so many. I used to find light in the dark, and you found darkness in light. I'd look straight at the sun, but you would hide from it. You couldn't care less if you died at any given moment, so young, but I did since I've always thought that I haven't lived enough; I still do, actually. You had courage; I had patience. We complimented each other, so much the same and so very different, and that was the eternal obstacle to our possibility of happiness.

The most difficult moments of my life came when I desperately tried to get you out of my life, to exile you from my heart, to make my love for you cease to exist. I can no longer stand the pain that I feel because of her presence, so I will try the pain of our parting for as many days as I possibly can, I thought, the stupid guy that I was. Without you, my travels would lack the magic of old; my searches would bring about no new discoveries.

Do souls sing? Do they feel? Hurt? Love? Speak? Listen? Can you hear me? I want to feel your breath on my neck, touch your hand, caress your face, lock you in my arms, and kiss you like I have never done before. I don't want to forget you. I want to do everything that still reminds me of you. I want to keep the flame that's burned me alive, blazing, for a long long time in my inner world. But if it does go out eventually, then I will place it, place you, on the most sacred and glorious shelf in the safety deposit box of my memories. I want to remember you as the most exquisite gift that I ever received. I know I'm but a fool to love you since you are alive no more.

But you know what? Sometimes those whose bodies are dead can define the lives of the living. But only those who had lived their lives to the fullest and not just gone through it like something they just had to do. You may be the exception to the rule that I just made up in my head, as you are not one of the former; however, you do define my life. And I do not wish to change that. Not right now. Perhaps someday. Maybe this confession will help me find once more my lost path, the one that leads to tomorrow. Maybe not.
