i was listening to a song today, it reminded me of this guy i liked for the longest time. i haven’t thought about him much since last fall. we met a few summers back, a typical boy meets girl kinda cliche. we seemed to hit it off, but by summer’s end neither of us made a move.

school starts and i mostly forget about him (i had no means to contact him, so there wasn’t much else i could do). i had a lot on my plate at the time, there were big changes in my life at that time. Then one day Mister Summer comes flying back into my life. we talk a bit before agreeing to meet up later that day. we end up eating dinner together, talking all the way to closing. feeling brave i asked him for his number, he gives it to me willingly with a smile. we text each other for awhile before he vanishes again. this goes on for six a couple of months before i finally had enough.

i texted him out of the blue during one of his ‘returns’ telling him i liked him. nothing more, nothing less. i was honestly expecting him to tell me i had misunderstood all of our interactions, at this point i defiantly thought i might’ve but lo and behold i hadn’t. he said he liked me too, but was to scared to say anything.

retrospectively, it was at this moment that i knew how it was going to end. most of my friends kept telling me that i was going to get my “movie ending” and congratulating me on his reciprocation of my feelings. but i knew that nothing was going to happen. i knew i wasn’t going to be one of those lucky people who get their movie ending. we met up the day after to talk about the entire situation. we talked for a few hours, but it wasn’t until the end that i brought up the reason we were even there. he said he wasn’t sure what what to do, that he never had had a gf before. i told him we were in the same boat. i told him nothing had to come from our confessions. and ultimately nothing did.

but i don’t think that’s a bad thing, if anything i’m really happy that nothing happened. he clearly wasn’t as interested as i was, and i don’t mean he wasn’t interested romantically, but i mean he wasn’t as interested in taking the next step.
