Recently, I’ve been down some fascinating research and experimenting rabbit holes with father Catich’s wonderful book »The Origin Of The Serif«, a must-read for understanding the Latin alphabet and its history a bit better and more in depth. The archaic monoline Roman Capitals that are still very close to its Graeco-Phoenician-Etruscan predecessors are such a joy to write with a glass pen and some watercolors! I’ve been working on serifs and the transition into the serif on the horizontal strokes. I think it’s starting to show a little at least? These are definitely better than they were the first day picking up a brush again. I had to teach myself the horizontal transition again from scratch. There was definitely no muscle memory left of any of that compression/rotation/pressure/release manipulation left. I struggled with that same stroke a LOT the first time I started learning brush Trajans too. Really wish I’d kept up my practice better 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
