Those who use/have used both crutches and a rollator, how do they compare for you? I currently use forearm crutches whenever I leave my dorm building for pain and energy and they help quite a bit when walking, but I still really struggle with standing in one place, or finding a spot to sit when I need to stop walking for a bit. So I've been thinking about trying a rollator to be able to sit down anywhere, but I'm not sure how it'd compare to the crutches for when I'm actively walking or whether the extra bulk would be worth it. I know ultimately it's an individual thing and the only way to know for sure is to try it, but I want to try to gather a bit more information first.
Question for the community...
was gonna draw this but don't have energy to rn so I'll just post it in words for now:
for the able-bodied: anywhere you wouldn't be able to fit through with a shopping cart, we can't fit through either
Hi, could some rollator users share what it's like using them to shop for groceries and in public transport? I'm planning to get one but unknown situations scare me.
I've seen people use under-seat bags as shopping ones and place small amounts of stuff on the seat itself, but I usually buy a lot of things so I can't bend down that much and they wouldn't fit on a seat. I'm not sure if regular shopping baskets would fit and be balanced properly on a seat or if I'd need a custom one?
As for public transport I'm not sure what I would do if there is very little space, the buses I use are very cramped sometimes... I'm not sure if people would move over for me and I'd have trouble asking them to because I don't speak the local language well and my voice is quiet and my anxiety is bad :( Also would sitting on the rollator in a bus be safe? I think some buses don't have seats that would let me have the rollator nearby.
Community, do your thing!
Me, minding my own goddamn business, a mobility aid user :
Every old person in a 5 mile radius coming to tell me about how I don't know real pain and that it only gets worse as you age : ππππΊπΊππΊππΊπππΊππΊ
Me, having to listen to them, knowing that this taking up all my energy for the day and I will spend multiple days in recovery: π
Me, having to listen knowing that doctors don't believe me about my pain because of the universal belief that young people have it good: π
Me, listening to them say how they could "do with a nifty little thing like that" when my rollator is the reason I'm able to leave the house: π«
Me, being polite and quiet even though I have this same interaction every single time: π« π« π«

I finished decorating my new rollator for now! I'm really pleased with how it looks, I think it's pretty cute. I named it Bumblebee, it's a Comodita Tipo Stand Up Advance All Terrain rollator, and so far it's been incredibly helpful for getting around outside!
So the first thing I want to say is I really do love my rollator so much it makes it so much easier to walk around outside. I got it so I could be more active and so far it's helping. I need to get another YMCA membership. Tomorrow I should have all the stuff I'll need for decorating my rollator for now, I'll try to post pictures. I need to find someone to commission for a cover for the cushion and backrest. If anybody on Tumblr knows of where I could go to have somebody do that for me, let me know.
On Wednesday I saw a neurologist about some concerning symptoms I've been having since middle school that are getting increasingly worse. So I've always had these minor shakes that feel like some sort of seizure. And in the past few years I've had worse episodes, 2 or 3 times I've straight up blacked out and woke up halfway on the floor or completely on the floor, with my limbs in a strange position. I feel like I've been run over afterwards, weak, sweaty, sore, thirsty, hungry, nauseous, just so sick. After talking to a neurologist she seems unsure if I have epilepsy or functional neurological disorder. She said based off the way I'm shaking she thinks it's more likely I'm having PNES. She ordered another EEG, this one is a 6 hour video EEG. I have to get only a couple hours of sleep the night before, I need to not take my Lyrica the day before and the morning of, and I need to read something that really stresses my out on my phone. What triggers my seizures are not sleeping well, missing my Lyrica, stress, and smoking a lot of pot. My last EEG was too pleasant, I was calm and relaxed and well rested. I told her this one needs to be scary for anything to happen, lol. So we'll see what I end up being diagnosed with.
Rollator appreciation post!
β‘οΈ Btw, I've noticed there's not many gifs of rollators (or mobility aids in general) so I'd like to make some. If you have video of your rollator (doesn't have to show you) that you would be happy to make public, please send it via an ask or DM and I can turn it into a gif! βοΈ
