Another Centaur in the factory, sometime in the Sixties. Notice the two spherical tanks above the engine assembly. The darker one is a hydrogen peroxide tank, used to provide power for the engines' fuel turbopumps. Hydrogen peroxide also fueled the Centaur's attitude control system, until the system was replaced with a hydrazine-fueled attitude control system. This change, which was enacted in the 1980s, also changed the main engines on the Centaur from a pressure-fed and pump-boosted propellant flow cycle to completely pressure-fed. This resulted in a much simpler and more cost-effective design.
Notice the interesting cradle they have for Centaurs, as well. Judging by the incomplete one in the back, these two guys have a lot of work cut out for them.
A Centaur upper stage in the factory, sometime in the 1960s. This one would've been used as an upper stage on an Atlas rocket, unless it was sitting in storage for several years. For all I know, this could've been the upper stage on some really interesting mission.
Just look at the engine system, though! Very very cool.
