Doflamingo runs violent, yes. He's full of so much anger and hatred toward the world after everything he and his brother have been through, and he doesn't know how to process his own misery other than by lashing out and/or making a nuisance of himself. He flip-flops between biting you over an attempted headpat and demanding attention through the most annoying methods he can come up with, and it only gets worse when he starts to develop some genuine trust in you.

And there's more than the biting! Doffy tries all sorts of things, from tampering with your food to attempted stabbing (if he's feeling especially emotionally unstable). He tests boundaries, gets in your personal space, and makes himself as loud and obnoxious as possible in the effort of proving that you do hate them, after all, that your kindness was a farce, and he was right not to trust you.

Eldorado National Forest

Finally back on the road after six months of Delays, Detours, and Distractions (aka the title of my autobiography). Currently on a quick side trip to the Tahoe area to make sure all my various mechanical fixes and build tweaks hold up, then it's a brief pit stop for adjustments before heading out in earnest.

- Clarissa likes astronomy.

- Julie likes astrology.

- Amos can beat anyone in a 1v1 fighting game, no matter the game. He knows all the cheat codes. Once got kicked out of an arcade on Ceres due to cheating allegations. Almost punched a guy but Alex stopped him, eager to cut their losses and go spend their already earned winnings elsewhere.

- Naomi knows at least 3 languages. Translators are incredibly advanced but it was a "fun challenge" when she was a smart little kid. Whenever she argues with Holden about something petty (such as how he needs to drink fewer than 10 cups of coffee a day if he wants to remain alive) she starts calling him names in another language just to irritate him further.

- Michio is always itching to get her hands on Drummer's hair to encourage her to try out different styles. Michio redoes her braids at least once every 3-4 days (they're on a ship I assume the hairstyles stay in for a while to keep hair out the way and due to lack of water for washing), being very expressive with it, creating new styles. She really wants to do something fancy with Drummer's hair. Was able to one day and Drummer left it in for a week. She didn't care about how it looked, preferring functionality, but enjoyed seeing Michio happy and the feeling of her handling her hair and being close for a while.

- Ashford and Drummer would toss crew members they dislike or distrust between them on the Behemoth, like cats with a mouse:

"Clearance? See Ashford."

"Clearance? No, no, you need codes for that, the Captain has those."

"You don't need codes you need a higher access level. Ashford can do that."

"Ah, now I could, but I need explicit proof that Drummer herself has approved the change, sasa ke?"

"Explicit proof can be provided by the captain or the XO. He will do it."

"Ah, it looks like someone else did your job. It na matter anymore. Make sure you tell the Captain."

Especially happens when they know a crew member is bending rules or hear rumours of pixie dust being sold on the side. Any crew member on the receiving end of this treatment is usually acutely aware and shuts down whatever operations they are running before they are thrown in an airlock.

- Drummer and Ashford meet when their ships are docked at the same station to drink and bitch about politics and people in power.

- Prax and Amos are still in contact, mostly Prax sending Amos updates of how Mei is doing. Prax sends Amos a plant whenever he's able to, and there's a small collection growing in the galley of the Rocicante.

- Bobbie is Mei's idol, she wants to be like the "big strong pretty woman" when she grows up.

- Bobbie and Amos have fake arm wrestles with Mei where they dramatically let her win. She knows they're faking but loves it, especially when they parade her around the room afterwards to celebrate her victory.

There is a very high chance that I will someday write a full fic of Reader intervening with not just Doffy and Roci, but Trebol and his little band of weirdos too. I feel bad for them, and that kind of adoption fic is riiiight up my alley of stuff I like to write. :3c

For now, though, I'll do some headcanons for you for the version of this situation that only includes the Donquixote duo. I would LOVE to be poked more about the full idea, however...

• If this is before Trebol got involved, Doffy is still a lot more desperate (and open) to be saved. Especially in an instead of situation, where their dad has already wound up dead, and the two brothers are alone without any other options for escaping the nightmare that their life has become. With Rocinante falling apart under the stress, Doflamingo has been left as the one to keep both of them alive. A pirate captain showing interest in them probably isn't a good thing, he thinks, but it's better than starving to death on their own, or being hunted down by the next angry mob that finds them.

• So if you offer to take them in, they'll accept. Doffy sees getting off the island as a better chance at survival than staying where they were and waiting for something to kill them, while Roci is too terrified of being on his own to let his brother leave without him. He doesn't trust you, though! He doesn't trust you at all, not after how all of the other people outside of their homeland have treated them, but... you're giving them food, and a warm place to sleep, and those simple comforts are such a relief that going with you doesn't seem all that bad, for now. If Doffy says they should, then maybe it's okay.

• Rocinante is an easy child; he eats what you give him, stays where you tell him to, and doesn't cause trouble outside of whatever damage is done by his own natural clumsiness. If anything, it seems like he wants to disappear into the woodwork and never have to be seen or heard again. If you scold him for anything, he just cowers and nods in agreement with whatever you say, never daring to talk back or ask for the things he needs, even in the better moments. He clings to Doffy like a shadow, too, relying on his braver big brother to do all the scary things and make sure they're allowed to stay.

• Doflamingo, meanwhile, doesn't trust you in a different way— less scared, more snappy, bratty, and just plain tense, like he's expecting you to turn around and try to hurt them at any moment. He's louder and more demanding, always the one to speak up and make sure that he and his brother have what they need. As brave as he usually manages to seem, however, he still doesn't relax around you, and pays very careful attention to you and everyone on your crew, just in case there are any subtle signs of danger to pick up on. He's a high-strung, paranoid, miserable mess, and it takes a lot of time and convincing to get him to open up about any of the inner pain he tries his best not to even think about. It's better that way, all out of sight.

I'm finally (finally) uploading the last few entries and photo sets from my 2022 road trip. I can't believe it's taken me this long. ADHD procrastination is real, y'all.
