Something about making a kidnapped AU is that it's really hard to implement a lot of things because it's a historical fiction adventure book which makes it super duper hard to just work around it that isn't just making Alvid be in a relationship or anything minor like that BUT I do have an idea of a Modern AU of them
Of course, the whole Jacobite thing isn't going to work as it is in the modern days and Jacobites aren't a thing no more BUT BUT BUT I have an idea of Alan being a "wanted criminal" or something along those lines but the thing is that he isn't really guilty of anything major (until he's wrongly accused of murder later on, duh) and basically it's all the same, really
David's parents died, he got their old estate but his uncle blocked him and sold him out to a criminal ring or something along those lines but then Alan probably got lost or something and that's why he came in there cause he doesn't trust normal citizens to not snitch on him to the police. But the criminals need to make a departure somewhere and bring David and Alan along (for their deal). Of course, both of them beat the shit out of them but once they're out, they have no idea where the hell they are at (at least before Alan checks his phone that got snatched by them when he came in) so they both set out the journey to go back and David got lost half way through (which is how Alan got accused of murder) and then YEAYYYY adventure!!!
Also, I feel like David would have some sort of internalized homophobia and Alan is low-key pining for him
But that's what i got so far and there are two endings I thought of, one which Alvid got together and live together in David's estate (yay! Happy ending!), or two, Catriona and David got together and Alan is heartbroken but still supports David along their relationship (the angsty/more leading towards canon route)
I spent almost half an hour on this crap idk why sighhhhhhh
In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candle-light.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.
I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people's feet
Still going past me in the street.
And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?
Bed in Summer, by Robert Louis Stevenson
Summer Sun
Great is the sun, and wide he goes Through empty heaven with repose; And in the blue and glowing days More thick than rain he showers his rays. Though closer still the blinds we pull To keep the shady parlour cool, Yet he will find a chink or two To slip his golden fingers through. The dusty attic spider-clad He, through the keyhole, maketh glad; And through the broken edge of tiles Into the laddered hay-loft smiles. Meantime his golden face around He bares to all the garden ground, And sheds a warm and glittering look Among the ivy's inmost nook. Above the hills, along the blue, Round the bright air with footing true, To please the child, to paint the rose, The gardener of the World, he goes. by Robert Louis Stevenson

A poem by Robert Louis Stevenson
Bed in Summer
In winter I get up at night And dress by yellow candle-light. In summer, quite the other way, I have to go to bed by day.
I have to go to bed and see The birds still hopping on the tree, Or hear the grown-up people’s feet Still going past me in the street.
And does it not seem hard to you, When all the sky is clear and blue, And I should like so much to play, To have to go to bed by day?
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894)
