Hello my friends! ☺️ Please enjoy this goofy aaah story I came up with at work. Is it a crack fic? A comedy romance one shot? You decide! 😂 I pictured the 2026 designs and personalities here (not that the personalities are THAT different). Also, tried my hand at keeping this gender neutral! Anyways, enjoy my cringe ass self.
GN!Artist!Reader x Fox McCloud - Art Shenanigans
-------
(Cue SpongeBob narrator voice)
Ah yes. The Great Fox. Home to the famous mercenary team, Starfox. And today, we are focusing on their newest member - a person named (Y/n).
It was another calm day in space. No missions, and no emergencies. So, no work. As such, you - our dear (Y/n) - found yourself doing one of your favorite hobbies. Drawing!
And what were you drawing, you may ask? Well....
You were currently lost in your own little romance drama daydream, sketching out a scene with your cute leader Fox and you, embracing in a 'Titanic' type of a way on top of the Great Fox.
The wind in your hair, the dramatic love filled tears in both of your eyes, the twinkling of stars sprinkled across the dark wispy clouds of the Cornerian night sky....
You sighed, wondering if he maybe felt the same way about you. You've only been on the team for a few months, and well, you were human. You weren't sure if he would think of you in that way. I mean, you did towards him so... anything's possible, right?
You shook your head, getting rid of those anxious thoughts. Then, you picked up a colored pencil and continued on, getting back into your daydream, smiling like a lovesick idiot as you were coloring.
And now, all that was left were the finishing touches. "Maybe....some roses to decorate the borders?" You smiled to yourself, content at your decision. You had to add a li'l more pizazz to it. Just a bit. "Let's see..." You whispered to yourself.
"A rose here, and a rose th---"
"Whatcha drawin'?"
"GAAAAAHHHH!!!"
You threw your pencils straight into the air and spread your arms and chest across the table.
Slippy looked shocked, and simply stared at you in silence. He didn't mean to startle you, but he was calling your name for the past minute.
After a few seconds, the clattering of your pencils echoed off the walls in the bridge as they rained back down on you. "Ow!!" You winced, your one hand protecting your face from the onslaught.
Slippy watched you with concern.
"Uhhhh......are you.....okay, (Y/n)?"
You tried your best to play it cool. I mean, if Slippy and the others saw this, you'd never live it down. Never. Matter of fact, you'd just launch yourself into space and let the lack of air and freezing temperatures do its thing. Not to mention, Slippy is Fox's childhood friend! He'd tell him for sure, right?
Or.... maybe not?
'Oh, c'mon brain, think of something believable! You can do this!' You internally screamed.
"H-Hey, Slip!" You could feel the sweat building up on your forehead. Damn, it got hot in here all of a sudden.
Not good. Not good at all.
"I uh, I am currently......trying a new exercise! Yeah!" You nervously laughed, and then turned your body so you were laying in a 'paint me like one of your French girls' pose on the table and were lifting your one leg in the air, doing some form of strange pilates. That's what you called it in your head, anyway.
"One, two! One and two! I um, gotta stay fit!"
Slippy looked at you like you were on drugs. This was odd, even from you.
"(Y/n) I DEFINITELY saw you drawing something..."
He inched closer. And closer.
Aw, shit.
You sped up your leg movements. "What?! No, no! I'm telling you! This is uh...a huge craze back on Earth! It's uh....a human thing! Yeah! We are really REALLY weird! Fitness and all that! Ahaha.....ha....ha."
Your eyes locked with his as your fake laugh faded away, realizing that he was trying to pounce on you like a cat.
Fuck, he didn't buy it. Of course he didn't. He literally saw you. Left with no choice, you had to escape.
There you both were, staring at each other like it was a scene out of 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.'
In an instant, Slippy jumped over to you and tried pushing you off the table. You retaliated and grabbed your drawing, holding it folded in the air to keep it away from him. You silently thanked God that you were taller than him. Not by much, but still.
"Why the heck are you hiding it?! C'mon (Y/N), it can't be THAT bad! I've seen your other stuff! And it's really great!" He pleaded.
You flinched, grimacing at the thought of him seeing your current wip. If he knew, if he only knew.
"Slippy, those are different!" You cried. "You just can't see this one, okay?! I'm serious, if you see it, I'll actually die!!"
He let out a huff. "Aww! But that just makes me want to see it more!" He whined.
You both were fighting in a dust cloud straight out of a cartoon, when suddenly, you felt....air.
Air?
You wiggled your fingers.
Air. Not paper.
.......
In a panic, you turned around and looked up wide eyed.
Oh, you were cooked. SOOOO cooked. It was all over. It's time to die. Rest in Peace, (Y/n).
Falco opened it up and was scanning it over.
Of all people. Of all the people it COULD HAVE BEEN.
Silence again.
.....
You felt your face heating up. Oh God.
Falco peeked up at you briefly. He then lowered your drawing and had the biggest shit eating grin plastered on his face.
"Interesting......I never would'a guessed...."
You felt your whole face turn beet red, blooming into the brightest blush you've ever experienced. "FALCO, GIVE IT!!"
You ran over and jumped up trying to get it out of his hands, but now you were on the receiving end of not being able to reach.
"Hmmm......." He began, pretending he was actually going to consider your request. "No, I don't think I will." He taunted you casually, all while sounding completely unbothered.
"Aww, no fair! I wanted to see..." Slippy mumbled, feeling defeated.
"Ask and you shall receive...." Falco said with a cocky tone.
You tried to hurdle jump the table.
"Wait--!!"
But it was too late.
Falco walked over a bit and leaned down enough to show Slippy, both of their faces covered by your artwork.
You waited with bated breath, since they were just.....staring at it. MENACINGLY.
They then lowered the paper, now both of them with shit eating grins.
"Wow, I uh...... didn't see that one coming." Slippy said surprised. "Right?" Falco said. "Who would'a guessed the newbie would catch feelings so fast?" He then placed a feathered hand a top his head in a mocking manner, as if he was fainting. "Oh my, Fox! Mwah, mwah!" He said in a (high/low) pitched voice, imitating you quite poorly for comedic effect.
You stomped over with a mix of anger and shame, ripping it out of Falco's hands. You were gonna actually kill him. Thanksgiving is coming a bit early this year, that's on God.
"Yeah, yeah! I get it, okay? Just shut the hell up already!!"
"Aww, don't be embarrassed (Y/n)!" Slippy cheered. "I think it's really really sweet! You should show him at some point!"
Falco laughed. "Boy, I need to make sure I'm there when that happens. I can't afford to miss this." He said, playfully tapping the drawing with one of his feathered hands.
"Grrr......" You pouted, thinking of ways you could exact your revenge on this blue feathered bastard. Oh well, at least Slippy was supportive of your feelings.
"Don't either of you say a single word about this! Not to Peppy, not to Rob, and especially not Fox! I can't have him see this, ever!! I'll die, do you understand?!"
"What don't you want me to see?"
Speak of the devil, there he is. Man, did you have the worst luck or what?
You stammered out something incoherent as Slippy and Falco gave each other knowing smiles.
"Fox! Hi, umm....how uhh.....how are you....today? It's beautiful out isn't it?" You managed to choke out, feeling your voice quivering.
Fox quirked a brow at you and smiled amused. "I'm sure it is back on Corneria. Hard to say since we're in space."
Your eyes widened. You could hear Falco snickering at your dumbass remark. Oh for God's sake.
"I......." You began, then lowered your head in defeat. "I.....forgot. Sorry."
You wanted to just go into a hole somewhere and never come out again.
Fox laughed lightly, placing his hands on his hips. "No worries! Relax, (Y/n)! It'll take you some time to get used to it still, I'm sure."
You looked up and smiled at him. "Ah! Right! Thank you, captain!" You then bowed at him, making him laugh more. You were pretty darn funny. And cute.
"Whoa, hey! No need to be so formal!" He said, waving his hands in front of himself. "Just Fox is fine. And....talk to me like you would anyone else, okay?"
You looked up and slowly straightened up. "R-right....thanks, Fox."
You two were smiling at each other when Fox remembered why he came into the bridge in the first place.
"Say....I almost forgot. Did I hear....you wanted to show me something? I didn't mean to overhear, but I was already down the hall."
Oh damn, now you wanted to shit. Just to take a shit and die. This couldn't happen, not after such a sweet moment you two shared!
He was laughing with you and not at you, right?
Right??
"Oh...." You started nervously. "It's nothing, really! I was just scribbling on some paper is all, just something I do to pass the time!" You said, waving your hands around.
Fox tilted his head, then looked over at Slippy and Falco. The former was looking away nervously and the latter looked like he was going to bust a gut laughing. What the heck were you three talking about? Strange....
"Are...you sure?" Fox questioned with a hint of concern in his voice. "Y'know, you can talk to me about anything. I'm here to listen."
Your heart squeezed tightly. Gaah, why did he have to say that with such a SWEET LOOK ON HIS FACE! And so sincerely too...
"I...thank you, but really, I'm okay. I appreciate it though, Fox! Really!"
He was willing to let it slide, although it bothered him. Hopefully you weren't upset. Maybe you were just still trying to settle in?
Unfortunately for you, Falco wasn't willing to sit and watch this go away peacefully.
"Actually......she DID have something to show you!" Falco cheered, reaching his hand around to grab your drawing.
You grimaced, and grew panicky. No way was he seriously going to do this to you. No way!!
"No, no Falco you're wrong!" You laughed forefully, trying to push him away. "Completely and utterly wrong! There is nothing to show or tell or talk about or--"
Falco, Slippy, and you all started talking at once making Fox extremely confused. He had come down to see what all the commotion was about and he sees the three of you....fighting now? He's not too sure what's going on but he notices how flustered and nervous you are, Falco is acting cocky (nothing new there), and Slippy looks like he's trying to patch up whatever the hell is happening.
"Ahem.....may I see it?" Fox says, clearing his throat.
You all freeze and stare at him.
"...the paper, I mean." Fox finishes.
"I....I caaaaan't!" You wail. Falco grabs it successfully and begins bringing it over to him. "Oh yes they can!" He taunts.
"YAAAAAAHH!!!"
You scream, grabbing it quickly out of his hands and cram it in your mouth in one swift movement, gulping it down whole.
...
........
...............
Falco looked like he didn't know whether to shit or go blind, Slippy looked concerned for your.....well, your everything, and Fox looked at you with....an expression you couldn't quite read. He almost looked....amused?
Bewildered?
A mixture of both?
I mean, who the hell wouldn't? You just ate a fucking piece of paper.
All of you stared at each other in silence for one very long minute, before you spoke up.
"Humans like to eat paper sometimes." You deadpanned. You felt a bit bad saying an absolute bold faced lie, but your pride was on the line! Though nonexistent at this point.
Slippy and Falco looked at each other and then back at you. "I highly doubt that." Falco stated plainly. Slippy didn't say anything. He felt so bad, he didn't know what to say or do to get you out of this situation!
Fox stared at you before speaking. "(Y/n).....are you.....are you sure you're okay?" He said concerned. You shook your head.
"No, no I'm fine! Like I said, it's a pretty common practice...."
He stared at you deeply, making you grow quite nervous. You could feel yourself getting lost in his deep emerald eyes.....
You gulped, averting your gaze. You knew that he knew that you were lying. And he knew that you knew that HE knew.
You started whistling and finding the interior of the bridge QUITE fascinating.
"Nice uh....crown molding in here.....damn, is that custom?"
Rob walked in casually, seemingly out of nowhere. "(Y/n) is failing quite miserably to change the aforementioned subject."
"NO ONE ASKED YOU!!"
Fox was about to say something else but Falco interrupted him. "Well, well, I guess lady luck IS on my side today..."
"Huh?"
You looked and saw that he had a small piece in his hands. You had only successfully grabbed a part of your drawing!! And ate it!! All for naught!!
Falco nonchalantly brought it over to Fox and showed him, Fox leaning in to look at it deeply.
"Falco, you're going too far!" Slippy yelled on your behalf.
Well, that was it. It was over. All. Over. Maybe Rob has a sick laser beam he can just shoot at you to end this horrific embarrassment you had to endure.
Fox looked quite serious, then his muzzle broke out into a...smile?
A.....a smile?!
Fox looked back up at you. "She looks breathtaking." He said taken aback. "Wow, (Y/n), you drew this?"
You were slumped on your knees looking down at the ground, and you looked up. "Wait....what?"
There was the torn piece. It only showed the front of The Great Fox with the stars above and a small rose you had just placed in the corner.
You felt an adrenaline dump coming on, but you replied to him all the same.
"Yes, I did....it needs more work though, it's umm.....it's not done yet..." You trailed off feeling shy at how close he currently was to you, as he bent down to meet your level.
He shook his head. "No way, this is amazing!" Fox beamed. "I gotta show Peppy this! And Rob! Take a look!" He jogged over to where Rob was and showed him.
Rob was quiet for a moment. Then piped up. "This appears to be missing the main focus of the piece, which I believe was (Y/n) and y--"
You took off your boot and launched it at Rob's head. Your boot bounced off of him like it was nothing and clammored onto the floor.
".......ouch."
Fox looked at you and laughed, rubbed Rob's head before folding up your drawing and carefully putting it in his jacket pocket.
"I don't know what he was gonna say but go easy on him, will ya?"
He then was excitedly heading out when he stopped since he remembered something and turned around.
"Hey, (Y/n)! Can I keep this?"
Your eyes went wide. Was he serious?
You blinked, then nodded, a smile etching it's way onto your features. "Yeah, sure! I'm....I'm really glad you like it!"
With that, Fox waved and headed out the bridge.
You had a dopey look on your face, as you kept waving to the closed door.
Slippy and Falco looked at you, then walked over to stand at your side.
"See? I told you it was great! And Fox liked it so much, he wants to keep it!" You smiled at Slippy. "Yeah!"
Falco sidled up next to you and rested his arm playfully a top your shoulder.
"So......? Are you still planning on ways to kill me now?" You looked up at him and he smiled at you. "No, not this time anyway." You beamed, making them both laugh.
Falco patted your shoulder and walked away a bit, his hands folded casually behind his head.
"Don't give up so easy, alright?"
You blinked in surprise, then nodded happily. "Sure!"
You then looked over your shoulder, with some guilt. "Uhh....sorry I assaulted you Rob. But you gotta keep this a secret too for now, okay?"
Rob turned to look at you. "It is alright. But a word of advice - perhaps next time, choose a different movie to rip off of rather than something so predictable and dare I say....cringe."
"Oh, THATS IT!! GET OVER HERE!!"
You began chasing Rob around, as he ran from you, trying to find cover under a table. "Danger, I'm in danger!"
Slippy and Falco looked at this wild seen and laughed. You were definitely gonna add a lot of excitement to the team.
May I request a blurb of Peppy and ROB64? Curious to see your take on ROB. Thank you, by the way.
Send 2 Star Fox characters for a short blurb!
The first ROB and Peppy blurb being referenced in the ask. I didn't mean to make you feel guilty, I'm sorry. 😅 That blurb was still fun to write. Particularly exploring where they came from.
Now, as requested, on to where they ended up:
Peppy sat on the bridge of the Great Fox, watching as the Star Fox team went through training maneuvers. It was good for the kids to do training every so often. Especially now that he was allowed to program the drones. It kept them on their toes. Kept their skills sharp.
Provided some free entertainment.
"Slippy is going to ram that drone," ROB 64 predicted.
"Now why would he do a thing like that?" Peppy countered. "Yer startin' to sound like Falco with that kind of talk about Sli-"
Arwing Three came around one of the asteroids and slammed head on into the drone he hadn't seen on the other side.
It was hard for a single red visor and a grilled mouth to look smug, but somehow ROB pulled it off. "I did not say he would do it intentionally."
"Bah! I should know better than to argue with that computer brain o' yers," Peppy muttered. He leaned back in his seat with a huff. He grimaced when the movement jostled his stomach.
Something he'd eaten wasn't agreeing with him. Not exactly an uncommon occurrence, especially as he got older.
He didn't quite manage to cut off a quiet groan. He heard the tell-tale whirling of ROB turning towards him. "'M fine," he muttered. "Jus' a bit of indigestion."
ROB made a humming sound as his visor flashed with calculations he was running. The humming wasn't necessary; it was just something he had picked up from the rest of them over the years. "Ginger tea seems to help you," he said. "I can monitor the team while you go get a cup."
Peppy shook his head, waving the suggestion away. "It can wait until the kids are done with training."
True, it was just training, but he always felt nervous leaving the bridge when the kids were out. Who knew what kind of trouble might find them while he was gone? It certainly wouldn't be the first-time training maneuvers got interrupted by space pirates, or an urgent call, or something else of that nature.
A robot with a visor didn't have any eyes to roll, yet somehow ROB still gave off that effect as he turned back towards the viewing windows. "You are stubborn."
"That computer brain o' yers must be slowin' down if that's still surprisin' to ya," Peppy said.
The huff and crossing his arms over his chest ROB responded with was absolutely something he had learned from Falco.
The order came in from Fox to release the next wave of drones. Peppy did so, grinning when the drones didn't behave in the usual, predictable way. Instead, they fanned out and behaved more like the arwings themselves.
Maybe he cackled when Falco cried out something to the effect of 'that old man rigged them!'. He'd never admit to it.
His laughter didn't last long when his stomach protested. He grimaced, massaging his upper belly with a hand in an attempt to ease the cramps that had set in.
After a moment he heard the clink of a teacup and saucer being set on the edge of the console. The scent of ginger hit him a moment later. He looked at the cup of tea then over at ROB. "Where'd ya get th't?"
"The kitchen," ROB 64 deadpanned, as there was nowhere else he could have gotten it.
"Ya left the bridge?" Peppy raised a brow in surprise. He hadn't even known ROB was capable of that. In all the years they'd had ROB and Great Fox he'd never left the bridge before. Save for the one-time Slippy had to take him to the hangar for emergency repairs.
Despite his surprise at its appearance, Peppy still picked up the teacup and took a grateful sip. Maybe now his stomach would quit complaining so much.
"You were not going to leave the bridge," ROB answered with a shrug. He gave Peppy a look, "My programming does not prohibit me from leaving the bridge. There is nowhere on the Great Fox I am prohibited from."
"S'pose that makes sense," Peppy said. "Still, never seen you leave the bridge before."
"I never had reason to," ROB 64 answered. "Though I find your stubbornness has created plenty of reasons to act outside of the norm."
Peppy ignored the jab. Instead, taking another sip of tea before saying, "Thanks."
"You're welcome," ROB replied. He turned back to observe the arwings battling the drones. Though not without muttering under his non-existent breath, "Stubborn old man."
"Okay, ya definitely have been spendin' t' much time with Falco."
