#roasted fish

Created for the @mr-sadman Seasonal Sadman 2024 event!

Today's recipe is a hearrrrty meal from part 2 of the Dreamling pirate AU fic. It's so sweet and full of friendship and community, something that fits the vibes of the year wrapping up. When I saw that food was one of the themes in the Seasonal Sadman event, I knew I wanted to do something and so Seiya and I collaborated on this fanfic recipe. In part 1 Hob and his crew raid a ship and rescue merman Dream from Burgess. In part 2 we have a cute scene with Hob fishing and merman Dream doing happy flips and dives in the sea after being away from it for so long. Later they go back to the crew who cook the fish and veggies! Here are a few lines:

Dream knows they must hasten back to help make preparations for dinner. And what a feast they would be bringing back. When they finally return to the ship, Dream fillets and prepares the fish to be roasted by Gilbert, who can control his fire in such a way that it does not burn the ship.

While he’s completing that task, Mervyn goes below deck to retrieve extra ingredients. When the crew had raided Burgess’s ship to rescue Dream, they hadn’t just taken gold and trinkets. They also raided the ship’s food stores and took some of the more expensive provisions. Fresh lemons, carrots, potatoes, and plantains were just some of the prized food items taken, all things Mervyn is all too excited to incorporate to enhance their dinner.

Loki is in the kitchen when Scott gets home, and it smells like cheese and garlic as she makes a very messy mostaccioli and garlic bread. There's also some kind of very viking looking fish dish on the counter, head still on, the eye looking kinda fucked up because the fish was roasted whole minus the innards that it looked like Loki might be pickling. "Oh, good, you're home! I wanted to give this Italian stuff a try but since I wasn't sure I'd like any of it I made a herring roast like my mother used to! Had to go all the way to Sweden for a herring that hasn't already been fileted and still had the head, though. The eyes are my favorite part"

Scott’s eyes grow wide at the sight of the roasted fish eyes. “Huh,” is all he can think to say before he pulls his gaze away to look at the rest of Loki’s work.
