Harry hesitates. “Ev and I went on leave together,” he says. “For a month, a little while ago. And we just – rented a house and made a go of it. You know, normal living.” John is very aware of the nighttime chill, even though it’s late spring. “Yeah?” “Yeah.” Harry shifts slightly. He doesn’t speak for so long that John’s fingers twitch, reflexively reaching for his pipe, the way he often does in these moments. “And I thought maybe we could try that. For a little while. No pressure to stick around, just until we figure out what’s what. What we want to do.”
