Falloutober Day 4: Western Justice
Warning: Hanging! There was a sketch with this but decided not to include it.
"I reckon the NCR's taking pages out of the Legion's book now."
The mild observation got him a glare from the former First Recon sniper to Kel's right and a pointed look from the red headed woman to his left. He lifted his eyebrows at them from behind his goggles and then nodded toward to road sign where the bodies of four Legionnaires hung along the road.
"You can't tell me that don't remind you of the crosses along Legion territory." He continued. Unlike the usual times when such displays of western justice were carried out it was obvious the bodies had been left hanging for a while. The stench of corpse left in the sun was a terrible one that Kel was sadly familiar with.
"They don't have a monopoly on making a statement." Boone snapped. The man's voice was still low and monotonous, but with how quick that response had come it might as well have been Kel's blue eyes dropped to him with an appraising look, taking in the tense set of his shoulders and the stiffness of his back.
"I would have thought you'd be happier to see dead Legion." He prodded in a casual tone. Boone's head shifted toward him again and Kel raised his hands in an appeasing gesture. "Easy, easy. I'm just askin'."
That seemed to mollify the man and he looked forward again as they continued toward the NCR encampment ahead of them. Six wouldn't deal with NCR directly himself, so he had set Boone and Cass to deal with them. Kel had tagged along for the hell of it.
"Leave it, Kel. You're bein' a bigger dick than you've got in your pants." Cass warned. He smiled wide, boyish, and apologetic though he knew the caravan wasn't the type to be mollified so easily. So he tipped his cap in her direct, settled his hands into his pockets, and dropped a few steps so he was walking behind them instead.
He did glance back over his shoulder at the bodies hanging over the road to tip his cap to them too.
It was kind of them to mark the way after all.
