How did the Poultry Guy and Worm Man dynamic work? How did they work together to fake their deaths?
okokok strap in there's a lot to unpack here. some details I don’t quite have figured out yet but there’s still so much to talk about ahhhh (god i love worldbuilding)
so Worm Man was the first superhero the city ever saw (superheroes/villains were already established in other places), he basically built the foundations for future heroes singlehandedly, though not everyone was super fond of him while he was alive. This OG Worm Man was not Zedaph (I have a couple options for who the original Worm Man was but I haven't settled on one yet). Zed worked with the OG Worm Man and was responsible for developing the Worm Man tech.
The reason Worm Man came to be at all is because the city was being terrorised by Poultry Man (whose origins are also a bit fuzzy for me but long story short Grian was a detective who was indefinitely suspended coz he was deemed mentally unfit). So Poultry Man’s stealing stuff and vandalising shit and is basically just the worst for like. two years and outside of hero work OG Worm Man dies (how the death occurs kinda depends who it is yk) and for a while there is no hero to stop Poultry Man and things get a little hectic. But the only person who knows that OG Worm Man is dead is of course, Zedaph, who is the only person who knew his identity. So naturally Zed takes over as Worm Man. People kinda notice things are off but they don’t really care all that much because finally someone is stopping Poultry Man and public opinion of Worm Man slightly improves (although he does kind of suck at first so it’s very gradual).
This works for about another year and more heroes pop up in the city, but so do villains. Zedaph does realise that he kind of hates having constant attention on him and slowly but surely he comes to hate being Worm Man. Since they already have a rivalry going on he only ever really fights Poultry Man and things get SUPER weird when they do. It’s like Poultry Man isnt trying to fight back at all. The media begins to care less and less about them, and focuses on the other hero-villain dynamics.
Meanwhile Grian is boredddd. So bored. And kind of over the whole chaos-gremlin thing (or at least just burnt out on it). He’s definitely done being evil at least, but he’s still a wanted criminal and people will question things if he just vanishes. So he decides to fake his death by blowing up some abandoned warehouse, calls in an anonymous tip and Worm Man shows up to stop him.
There’s a very weak and somber back and forth between them, Grian kinda gives up and tells Zed exactly what his plan is, and Zed can’t really find it in his heart to want to stop him. If the guy wants to start over he should probably let him, right? And maybe, just maybe, it’s not such a bad idea… there are other heroes to protect the city now. There’s a lot of debating about going through with it - Zed makes Grian promise to keep his word. They have a very dramatic moment of revealing their identities to each other and laugh because it’s super anticlimactic.
The media reports a murder-suicide. They build a statue of Worm Man in the city’s park. Zedaph goes on to become a member of the support team for a hero agency, and Grian becomes the sidekick of the city’s top hero, Hotguy… at the same agency.
I hope I didn’t forget anything here. keep asking about this au it’s so much fun to talk about :D
Hi! What kind of powers do zed and grian have in your au? Or are they built around tech to enhance their abilitie
oh im so excited to talk about this you have no idea
so zed is powerless but uses (or used) tech. the whole "worm man" name comes from his primary weapon/tool, which is this rope/lasso/whip kinda thing that he can control, which is pink and looks like a worm, which he invented and named himself. it's not super durable compared to how much tech/powers have advanced since he first started fighting as a hero, but he can make them on the fly using the gadget on his hip, which it does via a mix of science and plot convenience.
grian on the other hand has wings which he obviously uses to fly. he was experimented on as a child and also has upgraded resilience and strength as a result of this. as poultry man he left them plain white but as cuteguy he dyes the tips pink and has armour/enhancements at the joints, which mostly help with speed or control. he also used tech as poultry man, mostly explosives shaped like eggs. as cuteguy he wears more techy armour and fights with batons (think nightwing) - he wanted to use bombs or knives but his agency wouldnt let him. like every other hero in SHULKER he wears an earpiece and a camera to communicate with both hotguy and the headquarters - this is also the reason he can't really talk to zed about their past.
The idea of Grian and Zed just having insane background lore is just too funny to me, cause they so would
every time they interact in hermitcraft they have such a weird energy and i love it i had to carry it over to the au lol
both have more supportive roles in their jobs, zed being literal hero support (making weapons, analysing villains, hero dispatch, etc.) and grian being hotguy's sidekick, so they don't really take the spotlight to themselves that often... anymore >:)
as poultry man and worm man however, they were making headlines, their feud went on for years, they were literally the first villain and hero in the whole city (which kind of kicked off most of the events in the au oops). and then one day they were both killed in an explosion said to have been orchestrated by poultry man in an attempt to kill off his nemesis, not knowing it would kill him too. obviously that's NOT what happened, but there is a statue of worm man in the city's park that they walk past every day on the way to work, never saying a word to each other coz it's wayyy too awkward.
Do you think you’d ever write an official story for your hero au?
I absolutely love what you’ve shared so far and your art is amazing!
I don't know about writing, the whole "creating a narrative through words" thing confuses and frightens me lol - I need pictures in my books to get my points across. however I do plan to do some comic-style panels of a couple of the events that take place in the au, or maybe just snippets of whatever i feel like (not necessarily in any kind of chronological order)
I'm glad you like it!! honestly i did not expect anyone to care at all and the fact that multiple people have wanted to know more is awesome and I'm so happy about it <3

I’m sososo glad someone else is making the comparison between Max Blunder and Br’aad! (The tags on your Max art post) You’re the first person I’ve seen to say it and the connection has been there in my brain since giggs did session zero!!!
oh my GOD the similarities between Br'aad and Max was giving me flashbacks lol. the art in Grian's session 0 thumbnail? br'aad. the getting the other character's names wrong bit? br'aad. the backflips? br'aad. the bagpipes? well, a kazoo is close enough i think.
honestly rolling for gaydar seems like a pretty grian thing to do as well, it could happen.
