Between 1848 and 1950 some 2.5 million Irish emigrants in search of a better life embarked from Cobh on the south coast of Ireland. The last 123 passengers to join the RMS Titanic on its ill-fated 1912 voyage boarded here.

Ada grew up in Lyttelton, New Zealand, the daughter of a land agent and her mother raised her and her sisters to have a strong sense of social justice. Ada was an advocate for women's rights and the female right to vote.
At a relatively young age, she became a teacher, and moving away from the family home, lived independently. Her career progressed, with reaching a position of responsibility and commanding a salary of almost Β£100 per year- similar to that of a junior ships' officer- a comparison that will become apt in her future.
Ada had long determined she would not marry, as she was capable of providing for herself. Fate, however, had something else in mind. Early in 1903, Ada resigned her position to go travelling, where she intended to explore her roots back in England and take in the sights of Europe.
Having made the trip "across the ditch" to Sydney, in February 1903, Ada boarded the White Star Liner, the π.π. ππΆπ―πͺπ€ for Liverpool- where she met the man who would challenge everything she had decided about marriage: William McMaster Murdoch.
We hear a lot about William, but mostly to do with Titanic; much of it limited to his actions on the 14th. We hear less about the kind of man he was, and even less about the intelligent, strong woman who had his back- and he hers.
In a time when much of society- and the law- believed women were the property of men, William and Ada forged a true partnership between equals, where she had as much agency and control in the relationship as he did.
I hope you enjoyed this collage. I have some more theme ideas in mind, but please comment who you'd like to see an "aesthetic" for next!

The first-class suites did, however, come with a price. Tickets for suites would have cost up to Β£870 in high season (Β£72,932 today). The Titanic's designers wanted their liner to resemble a fine hotel on water with the highest stands of luxury.
First Class suites were decorated in period styles, and came equipped with telephones, heaters and steward call bells. Many first-class cabins had doors connecting their rooms to other rooms so they could walk directly from one room to another without going into the hallway.
The expensive first-class staterooms, like the one pictured above, were decorated in period styles, including styles ranging from the periods of Louis XVI, Louis XV, Georgian and Queen Anne
