river phoenix in my own private idaho (1991)
“You Lost Today, Kid… But You Don’t Have to Scroll the Comments.”
Usually I rant about movies 🎬— today I wanna rant about a social-media post about a movie.
So I’m scrolling and I see this clip from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. You know the one — young Indy 🧢, River Phoenix, 1912, loses the Cross of Coronado ⛏️, and this guy literally named Fedora shows up. Gives him the whole “You lost today, kid, but you don’t have to like it” speech 😤, takes off his hat 🎩, puts it on the kid’s head—cut—boom 💥, 1938, Harrison Ford on a boat off Portugal ⚓ getting punched in the face 👊. Great hat-to-hat transition.
And the post has the caption burned into the image like scripture 🔥:
“This is the single greatest transition in the history of cinema.”
And at the bottom, in that Indiana Jones font 🪶, “And you can’t change my mind.” Looks official, right? Like Lucasfilm’s personal opinion.
Then the comments blow up 💬. People arguing Lawrence of Arabia! 2001! Spielberg borrowed from Lean! And the poster — this guy’s in there all innocent, like, “Hey, it’s just my opinion, I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind.” Oh, come on 🤦♂️. That’s like throwing a steak in front of a pack of wolves and going, “I didn’t think they’d fight over it.”
That line — “you can’t change my mind” — it’s pure bait 🎣. He wants the argument. He’s pretending to be chill while secretly stoking the algorithm 🔥. And then when people bite, he acts like everyone else is too sensitive. Classic online jiu-jitsu.
Look, it’s a nice cut ✂️, I’ll give him that. But “greatest ever”? I don’t know. The guy playing Fedora looks like a discount John Larroquette they found wandering off the Night Court set. We’re supposed to be moved that this guy gave Indy his hat? Bit underwhelming 😐.
You don’t post “you can’t change my mind” because you’re confident — you do it because you want the fight.“I’m just sharing my opinion”? No you’re not, buddy. You built a digital mousetrap and then pretended to be surprised it caught something 🐭.
Keanu Reeves talking about his late friend River Phoenix ❤️
So touching ❤️❤️❤️
🎥Thanks to 80s filming Youtube 🙏💗
Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix were great friends and worked in 2 movies together. In I love you to death and My own Private Idaho ❤️
Keanu Reeves has mentioned his friendship with River Phoenix many times over the years. When speaking to Esquire in 2021, he discussed his late friend, stating: “He’s a—”, he started before cutting himself off. “It’s weird speaking about him in the past,” Reeves said.
“I hate speaking about him in the past. So I almost always gotta keep it present. He was a really special person, so original, unique, smart, talented, fiercely creative. Thoughtful. Brave. And funny. And dark. And light. It was great to have known him. To—yeah. Inspirational. Miss him.”
River Phoenix gone to soon, and today would have been his birthday ❤️
Happy heavenly birthday River Phoenix, you always will be missed and never forgotten ❤️❤️❤️
