It really sucks that Eddie is gone. I thought he was the coolest guy going, always with that disarming grin. Without a doubt the most incredible rock guitarist of his era. He was so fun to watch, couldn’t take your eyes off him live. I was obsessed with his guitars as much as I was with him. He built them all himself, wound and dipped his own pickups, boiled his strings, those insanely cool paint jobs were legendary. His Frankenstein was the best. He dressed cool, and it totally fit his vibe. I love the old Kramer guitar ads with him and his famous tennis buddies that just wanted to be Eddie. I made a playlist of two of my cassettes (1984 and 5150) an 8-track (Diver Down) when I got spotify. But I think I’ve been back to them once? Weird how tastes change.

Like the rest of the world I’m truly speechless about the passing of this icon. His guitar playing was beyond words and Eruption was the pinnacle song to learn when you first start playing guitar. I have spent a lot of nights jamming to Van Halen and struggling to capture even a fraction of what Eddie Van Halen was able to do on the guitar. I don’t think anyone could simply understand how one man led and changed a generation of music.
