So this is entirely based on the playlist and just the whole confirmed Good Luck Babe phase etc...cause I am obsessed with that era. From my perspective right now their relationship being blocked by Preston primarily (after Preston not being pissed about wanting Marcus in the first place) is because Preston views himself as too messed up to love. The Bran vibes are actually killing me. So for this were gonna reference GOF cause I do think TV will be beyond different but unlike all the other RK MM books will have some similarities due to the mental health issues (ofc Preston is a psychopath so severe difference there). Onto actual theory.
So the initial breakups all will be about Preston just overall dislike of Marcus right. The later ones on the other hand are a mix of Preston's mental health issues and his belief that he will fuck up Marcus or that Marcus is just fucking with him because how could he actually love him. As well as Vencor and while I do believe Preston doesn't gaf about Vencor in many ways I think he cares about reclaiming pain aka revenge and he can't get that against Vencor without being in charge of Vencor as well as his connection with Jude and Kane. So losing Vencor isn't an option but losing Marcus isn't one either which puts them in a messy place that eventually leads to Preston doing something probably to cover up for their relationship or Preston not following through with his initial plan (like whatever was the first reason he fucked with marcus like Kayden and Gareth) but marcus finding out regardless.
So from this point it's Preston trying to win back Marcus and again the last break up could be his own death so this most likely post SV aka Preston just coming back to life. From here Preston knows he needs Marcus and will do anything keep him after losing him. I think Preston starts by trying to reignite them with their rivalry etc.... until he realizes he can't restart their relationship and this eventually leads him to talk to Kayden to find out a way to make it work in Vencor cause he'll be damned if he gives up. GARETH BETTER BE WITH HIM. Eventually I think he gets it into Marcus' skull that it's real this time and since Marcus is most likely with the Osborns as heir now that means they control all 4 families and legit can do what they want.
